Are you Sure? This Cord L-29 with front wheel drive, is about 33 years older, and in 1929, just barely beat another front drive car - the Ruxton - out of the gate. And Cords, unlike their big brother Duesenberg, were production cars... but, I happen to like the original Toronado, too...;)

I really liked my Chevy S-10 pups. Have a Toy Taco now, and it's a good truck. Wife has an '03 Buru Baja = that's fun!

Two cars I would really like to own: '56 Cev Bel-Air 4 door wagon and a '72 Lotus Europa.

Disclaimer: Have not read entire thread.

I've owned a LOT of cars. I think my favorite was the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder. Adequately powerful, true 4WD, very comfortable and quiet. Handled well, not ponderous. Lots of room. Perfect all-purpose vehicle. :)

Why not? Other than some extra fab work for an electric fuel pump and a harness/PCM for engine management, an LS should be a fairly straight forward swap.

With that being said, in a car that small and light, a carbureted SBC would be the simplest and cheapest way to go...... 9.5 to 1 compression, a cam in the 220 @ .050" duration range, Vortec heads and a Q-Jet would be my choice build.

I am aware of the late 20s Cord, as well as the 810. I read somewhere about the Olds being the first full bodied American production car. Maybe they meant full traditional body like modern cars, rather than the roadster style of the earlier cars.

Best for long hauls (and for getting my ashes hauled...) - VW Westfalia Camper. I was surprised at how much I loved that car, and even more surprised that I loved it despite how frequently it broke down.

Most crazy idiosyncratic yet still beloved - 1963 Studebaker Lark wagon with sliding roof - turned into an ersatz pickup truck. And leaked like hell.
