66 Toronado, first American full bodied production front wheel drive car. Also the GMC motorhome that shared the same drivetrain.
There is a kit available to swap a small block Chevy into the 914. That would make it reliable!
I have a friend who is doing that as we speak. I bet it'll go pretty good.
I also wonder if an LS would work.
View attachment 1187667 Are you Sure? This Cord L-29 with front wheel drive, is about 33 years older, and in 1929, just barely beat another front drive car - the Ruxton - out of the gate. And Cords, unlike their big brother Duesenberg, were production cars... but, I happen to like the original Toronado, too...![]()

The very small valve covers appeared to be critical. Not much room to the firewall - maybe 1/2".
