Your favorite drummer is?

Great player - and in formidable company, too!
Thanks for that! :)

It was a band that he put together just to record a few of his charts, back in 1988. A real family affair - Dad on drums, yours truly on bass and my sister on vocals for a few songs. I think we recorded six tracks in an afternoon after just one rehearsal. Some of Birmingham's best pros came along to play that session.

I was going to start a thread just to see but then I came across this one. I started as a drummer first, so I have quite a list. In no particular order:
  • Stewart Copeland
  • Jeff Porcaro
  • Dave Abbruzzese
  • Matt Cameron
  • John Bonham
  • Tim "Herb" Alexander
  • Dale Crover
  • Buddy Rich
  • Billy Cobham
  • Terry Bozzio
  • Mac McNeilly
  • Tony Williams
  • Neil Peart
  • Bernard Purdie
  • Mike Clark
  • David Garibaldi
  • Vinnie Colaiuta
  • Bill Bruford
  • Steve Gadd
  • Chad Wackerman
  • Dave Weckl
  • Danny Carey
  • Mike Portnoy
  • Gene Krupa
  • Max Roach
I'm sure I'm missing a couple too. Edit: I bolded those who influenced my drumming style.

All day e'er day it's gotta be Dennis Chambers just because he is who I would like to sit in with. Thomas Pridgen of Mars Volta. That guy is amazing too. Very precise and has a great feel.

From a, I can watch him all day with my mouth wide open kinda drummer is Akira Jimbo. I don't get how his mind can keep track of all that he does. I've never seem a more natural 4 limb independent player. Always smiling and just heroic with his drumming.

I love lists!

My favorite drummers include:
- Bill Bruford
- Narada Michael Walden
- Simon Phillips
- John Bonham
- Mike Clarke
- Billy Cobham
- Steve Gadd
- J.R. Robinson
- Joey Baron
- Gavin Harrison
- Terry Bozzio
- Tony Williams
- Stewart Copeland
- Kenwood Dennard

My current favorite hasn't been mentioned yet: Tobias Ralph of the Adrian Belew Power Trio and the Crimson ProjeKCt (where he plays alongside Pat Mastelotto). Super nice, humble guy too.

Here's a fun and interesting vid of Tobias being interviewed (sort of) by Pat.
