Your favorite fuzz/disto under $100.

That's great if you play with lots of rests between notes, but if you are "playing fast" with very few/short rests, then a gated fuzz is just a long stream of continuous fuzz like any other.

Again though Devi Ever makes some great fuzzes for under $100. The VFM is gated, and with the tone-pot mod I gave it, it was a thunder machine. The Cherry Pop already has that tone pot mod.

not all gated fuzzes are alike. i think the brown dog can do what the OP is looking for, but he's not gonna find one for $99 - and he can expect to adjust his playing style

the devi "gated" pedals just sound glitchy to me, and they don't offer much control. the cherry pop was one of the best of them, though (I like the Year of the Rat too, but even it had a decay that was too ragged sounding... nice bloom though)

This makes sense that you like both [kind'a] as the CP and YOTR are really just SMs.
Actually the gate on the CP drove me nutz, I liked the decay but I had trouble with the attack on a active 5 string, I'd lose the attack on lower notes. It would overload and compress too much right when you really didn't want it to.

My personal favorite thus far is the Ibanez PD-7 "Phat-Hed" pedal, that I got new for around $60 way back when I first started. Over 5 years and a half-dozen or so other fuzz/distortion/overdrives, this is still the one I consistently use. I use it currently with the death metal band, and it retains its attack even playing fast. Way under-rated pedal.

Huh, I guess I've never even heard of a gated fuzz. The sort of light disto thing is what I'm doing now with the DS1 and it's good for now... Still haven't played it w/ my band (guitar player is gone for 2 weeks) but messing around with it by myself sounds good and tracks decently when I play fast. Anyway, thanks for the info guys. I was looking into the Devi stuff, but more at the ruiner instead of the cherry pop.

Gated fuzzes normally don't do light, and when they do they get all sputtery and choppy... You know you might want to look at a few supperfuzz based fuzzes too for fun, sadly though not many are part of the under $100 range.

Also if you are looking in the direction of the DS-1 the do you really want a fuzz anyway? Maybe you should look at overdrives and distortions.
