One of my old guitarists flipped guitars for and equipment for a living and he had a Caparison at one point with these sorta tribal / abstract clock design inlays.

Each clock was obviously set to the hour of the fret it marked.
They were the coolest inlays I've ever seen.

I like roman numeral inlays as well though.

My custom Stambaugh has the inlays I like the most. Actually, block inlays are the reason why I consider the latest Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass model a huge improvement over the previous one (that and the active/passive capability). I'm also a big fan of Spector inlays (post #31).

i personally like the pearl block inlays on the maple neck.....like on the marcus miller, had one and it was awesome looking!!

I am with nubs on this, had a 77 Jazz neck on my 1st real bass, a fender frakenbass with a body and neck plate that dated to 61, lost that bas sto pawn when my wife had cancer and I am rebuilding a copy now.

White MOP does it for me. However my stipulation is that they have to be rectangles, like on Fenders. A square block, especially on a 5 or 6 string looks dorky.

Inlays can be very nice...I'm a big fan of Spector's inlays and I like the BEM dot on Lakland...

But if I were to commission a build of a "Fender Jazz" type bass, it'd be a transparent black stain over a quilted maple top with a black pearl pickguard, birds eye maple fretboard with black pearl rectangles...

Not a big fan of blocks here. I've always preferred dots on an unbound neck. I've been toying with the idea of slowly collecting the required number of man-made diamonds to replace my dots. Don't think I've ever seen that before, but just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean it hasn't been done. One carat loose stones run about $150.00 or so. $2K for decoration seems like a lot? Ask a guy with a hot rod or a Harley what some of his stuff costs.
