I suppose that would depend on whether you want gate to suppress noise going to your amp, or whether you want to gate whatever is before you VTdi if you’re using the DI. It only gates the signal going through it. If you place it after, it has no affect on the signal going out the DI and before the VT it doesn’t gate the VT at all

Mine has proven difficult to incorporate into my band rig. It's the Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz. $29, and they go on sale regularly. Sounds through my practice rig. Cuts too much bass to gig.

Is it noisy? I've always found the BOSS EQ pedals to have some white noise whenever you move a slider.

I was playing in a 4-piece noise rock band at the time and there was so much noise between us from fuzzes and distortions and 60 cycle hum, and whatever other noise making pedals we were using, that I’m not sure what came from where lol. It all sort of disappeared once we started playing (which was fairly loud for a band playing basements and little punk venues). If you could find a good bass EQ that didn’t add noise to your signal though, I’d recommend one.

I have a modded BOSS GE-7 that reduces most, but not all, of the noise. Would be nice to have the bass version as well.

A friend swapped out some of the op amps for lower noise ones. I'm pretty sure they were Wampler mods, though I'm certain the ones from Monte Allums, Fromel, and others are relatively the same.

I love my DemonFX Harmonic Booster. I can’t always get exactly the sound I want out of it, but I always feel something is missing as soon as I turn it off.

My next pedal is absolutely going to be a Mooer Bass Sweeper, but I think they’re over $50, atm.

How has your experience been with ordering from AliExpress in general? I've never dipped my toes into those waters.

i buy a lot of stuff at aliexpress including instrument hardware, doll clothes and art supplies, and i once ordered my husband a divers watch there.

since there are usually multiple sellers for each item, i go with the one with the most followers and the highest rating - just like i usually do with ebay. i only once had an item run concerningly late, and they had shipped it on time; the shipping company had paused it for a few weeks, which btw, has happened to me from sellers in the u.s., too.

I really like the JOYO stuff, and the pedals you find on Amazon that are probably AliExpress.
This could EASILY turn into a philosophical conversation about blatant thievery, etc, but I'll stick to the topic. I always look for the best price, and in doing so there are sacrifices made.

I have JOYO looper / tuner that was $38 shipped and it's awesome. I also own about five reverb pedals, delays, phasers, etc and they are all excellent and under $50 bucks. We live in a new world.

Here are some BLATANT copies like the Trace Elliot, compressor pedals, etc. They LOOK nice, and I'm sure someof them sound great, too.

Donner Noise gate: ISP clone, pretty decent.
Behringer Vibrato: legitimately great boss clone. Even the buffer, where some fail, is okay here.

In addition to lower-noise ICs already mentioned, upgrading the capacitors is a common mod — very good EQs, both the guitar and bass ones, once modded!

Okay, I'm quite sure the Fab Overdrive is NOT currently offered. It's my understanding that the OP is calling for stuff that's new that can be had for half a C-note, not bought new or used in 1996 or 2011-2012.

The Fab Overdrive can still be had for $20 used. They don't make them anymore but they are everywhere.

That said, yeah, unless you have a time machine, keep it to the actual time you're in. I'm in 2022. You may see this in 2031 and wonder if you should post about a pedal you bought in 2027, and the answer would be "no". However, if you're currently in 2027 well then post away.
