Your Favorite Round Wound Strings for Jazz Bass ?

Played D'Addario Pro-Steels for years with good results, then DR Marcus Millers, now DR Super Bright Steel and Nickel. All on EADGC strung Warmoth Jazz 5er.

the Dunlops are a great value, but i have to say that the DR MM strings really feel and play great.

What is your favorite Round Wound string for Jazz Bass? Sound, Feel, Consistency, etc...

DR Sunbeams (45-65-85-105) USED TO BE my favorite rounds on my J...until I swore off all rounds completely.

I'm really digging the GHS Pressurewound (44-58-80-102) I've been trying out for the last month. I liked the Sunbeams because they were just about the smoothest-feeling rounds I'd ever tried, but I actually like the overall tension on the Pressurewound better for their slightly stiffer feel, not to mention the fact they're even smoother than the Sunbeams.

The SB sounded full and warm on my J, while the PW seems to bring out a bit more growl.

interesting - are pressure wound strings best for fingerstyle only? or good for modern slap tone as well? I play funk, disco, smooth jazz / Variety Dance Band.

I actually like them quite a bit for rounds on a jazz. It has to do with the fingerstyle attack for me - they "thunk" just right. I find they have a normal lifetime - they certainly die quicker than compressed rounds, say, but not unusually fast, IME.

Next time I put new strings on it, I'll try the Dunlop SS Super Brights. That seems to be what the cool kids at the Talkbass lunch table have been talking about lately. And if I don't like them, I can always go back to Rotos.

Definitely try. Hopefully you do like the Dunlops.. I used them and I've never taken off strings so fast in my life.

OP, are you looking for a certain tone, tension, and overall feel?

It seems like you just want people to name their favourite strings which may not work with your style at all.

Right now, I'm loving DR Stainless Steel Lo Riders. They're high tension, which I like a lot, and they're bright in the upper mids, very growly, yet still retain a good fundamental. Also, their windings are somewhat compressed to give them a smooth feel (like DR does with all of their strings).
