Your Favorite Round Wound Strings for Jazz Bass ?

I have to go with DR Sunbeams as my favorite for my MIA Jazz , although I have the balanced set of XLs from D'addario on it. The D'addarios are quickly becoming a favorite (great bag for the buck) on a few different basses of mine. As I've aged I've gravitated towards Nickel on most basses. I'll probably try the Dunlop Super Brights next though. I love trying new stuff.

TL;DR-DR Sunbeams with D'Addario XLs second.

Right now, I'm loving DR Stainless Steel Lo Riders. They're high tension, which I like a lot, and they're bright in the upper mids, very growly, yet still retain a good fundamental. Also, their windings are somewhat compressed to give them a smooth feel (like DR does with all of their strings).

from post #4 "I play funk, disco, smooth jazz / Variety Dance Band." -currently playing Dunlop SS Nickels. not the cut through the mix with the band the Steels have with fingerstyle, but not bad. Noticed this at the downtown club gig Friday night - QSC wedges. @10 hours on the nickel set. Will boil before Saturdays winery gig.

For 2 years, I am in love with the D'Addario ProSteels now. They feel a little rough at the beginning, and sound a bit too bright, almost harsh, when freshly installed. But that is only a matter of half an hour of playing. Thereafter, they feel great, sound fantastic on my '73 Jazz Bass and last veeeeeery long!

Agree with this 100%. and the DR strings may have a little better feel.

I like low tension strings, so for me, Thomastik-Infeld Jazz nickel rounds are perfect (their flats are #1 in my book, too, although Pyramid Gold sets come very close). They cost a lot but are worth every cent IF you prefer looser strings.

For the budget-minded, either La Bella low tension nickel-plated rounds or the aforementioned Rotosound Swing Bass 66 rounds (nickel-wound, of course) if you like a tighter string.

I have four unopened packages of Rotosound Swing 66s. I noticed they changed their packaging from paper to plastic and the strings are no longer individually packed in their own paper envelopes.

My second favourite are GHS Bass Boomers. Really nice.

I prefer nickel .040-.095 (ish) strings for roundwounds.

I used to use D'addarios for years because they felt good, at least average lifespan, and can be bought in discount in bulk.

Also liked Ken Smith and Sadowsky strings.

Lately, I've been using Elixers. I do like worn-in rounds that aren't totally dead, and these are going on 8 months and are still teetering above totally dead. Great value and great feeling strings.
