Your local news

Do any of you find your local news to be rather pathetic? I do. It's fluffy stupid stuff and all I need to do is watch the ticker on CNN for about 5 minutes and I'll know more about what happened in Denver than by watching the local news. Plus I don't even think the facts about the stories are correct anymore. The weather is really the only thing worth watching the local news for. I wonder if local news is on its way out. Also, why does some reporter need to drive all the way to some bank that's closed to explain that it was robbed?

We have a lot of crap going on here, so there is plenty of opportunity for actual news coverage. I guess I'd say that, generally, our local news is better than average. I've lived in other areas where it was fluff, however, so I know what you mean.

As a side note, while viewing a local news web outlet, I read that New Orleans has a murder rate 8-10 times the national average. Hooray!

The worst part of all of this is that working for Gannett means it's all local, all the time.

People used to read my newspaper to get a mix of both local and national news. Now, we're giving away all the local news on our Web site and trying to sell it to people in the newspaper.

We're also going to calling ourselves "your local information center" instead of a newspaper, which is Gannett's way of incorporating the new media of the Web into it's business philosophy.

My job is to crank out local news every single day I work, that's it. Something is rotten in journalism.

i work at our local ABC/Fox/My Network TV affiliate in Master Control. ours is pretty much pathetic also. i spend most of my time laughing at the mistakes and crappy stories. but, it's a nice job. when ever i go out of town and stay, i like to watch the local channels to see that it's not just our local stations that suck. i think it's pretty much a rule that they suck.

oh, boy. you're not the only one. hell, my local weather channel made youtube, but only after it made the daily show...

i'm sure some of you remember this.
in my defense, it's not my hometown. just where i am currently stuck.

that was awesome!

i wish we had something like that, we actually did a one on one interview with Ryan Seacrest on Friday on our 5pm news that didn't really go so well....well lets say it didn't happen at all. they had audio problems. that would have been a perfect time for it. they later got a good interview with him.

Our local FOX station seems hell-bent on trying to scare everyone.

If the only information a person got about Portland was from the nightly news, they would think the city was overrun by meth-using rapists and murderers.

The other stations aren't much better. They would rather devote 5 minutes to a stuck horse or whatever than a few minutes to discussing any issue of significance in even the slightest detail.
