Korg Pitchblack is a pedal tuner(an excellent one I might add)

Presonus tube pre is a pre amp that uses vacuum tubes to add a warm sound tube amp sound to your tone

and EHX Clone Theory XO is simply a chorus and vibrato pedal

I like this little pedal, and just like my first bass I plan to keep it forever. Especially since it has background, I didnt just buy it.

What about the Bassballs? Whats the difference between it and the Qtron?

The Bassballs and the Q-Tron are vastly different. Try 'em both.

They are a valuable resource that I've consulted many times before I bought a compressor. I spent a lot of time reading the reviews and that inspired me to further research compression.

I settled on the LMB-3 because it was inexpensive and easily available in my area. It isn't my end all, though. I'm thinking about a ToadWorks Mr. Squishy, mainly because they are built where I live and I make it a point to support the local guy (my speaker cab [Avatar] is also locally built).

If you get confused on what a certain pedal is....google is your friend.

When it comes down to it; your own ear is going to tell you what is the best for you....funk/rock or not.

I think that
1-distortion
2-wah
3-octaver can be fun and possibly others.
I personally do not use any at the moment.

These have both served me well over 30 years of playing 29 different bass guitars, although I didn't start really using these effects till late 80's-early 90's- thru my various Polytone Mini-Brutes-Gallien-Krueger's -SWR-Fender's-Peavey's-Yorkville-Carvin combos heads and cabinets.

I played for years without pedals.

but if I have to choose:
1. Boss OC2 Octave Pedal
2. Some sort of Envelope Filter (an original Mutron would be nice)
3. Delay/Chorus/Phaser

Ive found it somewhat difficult to find certain effects available try out at CG, sometimes they have the ones Id like to try but Id call first to see if they have them.
Atleast GC will let you test pedals at thier store, the Sam Ash nearest to me wont even let you try effects in-store anymore, they want you to purchase it first and if you dont like it then you can return it.. which is a pain in the butt IMO

Just one: a TU-2 tuner. Gotta have one.

After that, an OD or distortion pedal and a reverb pedal.

I'm currently using the Badder Bad Monkey (Humphreys mod) for OD, and a Behringer DR100 reverb.

I personally don't count them as an effect...it's a utility item and a very important one at that.

Tuners don't HAVE to be in a pedal format, and for that matter the same goes for FX.

I'm primarily a funk player and I'm really into Bootsy/early P-Funk synth sounds so my mandatories are:

Compressor
Envelope filter
Synth

I actually also run an additional synth, multi-effect, octave divider and overdrive which I use for synthy tones as well.

If someone told me I could only have one effect, I'd keep the compressor. It saves the speakers when I slap, pluck and dig in which I do a lot.
