chuck a pitch shifter at the end of your chain. it's my secret weapon. running on two channels - so you can keep the low end - it's the bomb, & really puts any effect used before it thru the mangle. looovely.

1.MXR M-80 (To sweeten my overall tone and use distortion when i feel like it, especially good for when i use the wah)
2.Dunlop 105q (again, sounds monsterous with distortion after it)
3.Boss TU-2 (I guess if I were using a rack tuner or something else to tune, i would substitute this with an octaver. i use the digitech BSW for that)

I suggest a DI/Preamp first. very useful.

Alot of people seem to run wah earlier in the chain, especially before distortion, I just cant seem to get a usable or good sound with teh wah first, and ive tried with an odb-3(dont like it to begin with but still), Devi ever bass fuzz, and a tentacle love.

yea its weird, it seems like the majority of people use the wah after the distortion. when ive tried that it makes the wah just completely muffled/muddy/un-pronouced, but putting the wah first gives me a clear pronounced sound that cuts through really great.

Im a serious noobert on the subject of pedals. What are the 3 pedals you guys consider to be mandatory for a funk/rock bassist?

For funk/rock:

1.Filter
2. OD or Fuzz
3. comp

Me personally
1. Fuzz or OD
2. Tremolo
3. Comp
extra: Wah, Filter, or phaser.

Don't use it all the time, but it's always there. Can give me anything from a slight growl all the way up to evil crunch from hell. Been thinking of trying out a VT bass as a possible replacement, but I might miss the active/passive (my bass has a push/pull selector) and the volume boost functions on the MPX500

If I had to add two more, they would be

2. EHX Bass Big Muff (yea, OD and Fuzz are both essential. I'm a noisy one)
3. Ibanez Weeping Demon

Secondary pedals would be octaver (for sinthy sound with wah and fuzz), chorus/flanger and delay for trippy sections.
