Forgot to mention in regards to the Pirates game Thursday night, nice win for Jeff Locke. He is from a NH, so the locals are excited to see him playing well. After the ASG he went in a slump, last night was his first win in a couple months. Good to see him back.

Don't celebrate on the field, they said...

I'm glad my Braves are close to wrapping up a division win. I've been able to catch several games on television and my brother and I can watch them together with facetime and skype. I miss the guy being away at college, butt modern technology has helped with that quite a bit.

go, Braves!...:D

and the word is Hayward should be back on Monday...we'll need him and need him to be productive if we are to go anywhere in the playoffs...hasn't been the same team without him

You know, with all the injuries we've had, I expected us just to plow through his time away. I mean, Gattis was a machine when we had injuries at first base and catcher, we've had guys patch up middle infield and third base, we made it though a few pitcher injuries at bad times, and yet we failed to handle Heyward being out.

With that being said, he's going to have missed about 40% of the season and be within the top 3-5 in hits, runs, doubles, and homers, so maybe he's been an important piece.

there is just a certain magic that happens sometimes to some teams...i can't explain it..but i do know that when they moved Hayward to the leadoff spot, the magic happened....

i wonder how they are going to get Gattis more plying time...he's a monster....if they get to the world series, can you imagine....Hayward leading off and Gattis in the DH spot....i really want to see that

ps-edit...oh, and call me crazy...but watch out...Uggla is due...more than due...i look for him to have an outstanding playoff...he is far better than his current batting average would indicate

Congrats to the Dodgers for clinching the NL West. Last night behind a 2 hit complete game shutout by John Lackey, the Red Sox clinched a post-season berth and dropped their magic number for clinching the division to 1. After the disaster of a season last year and the collapse of September 2011, it is good to be back to the post-season with a talented and character-filled lineup. The Sox are also focused on winning with the best record as it is much better to face any of the potential wild card teams than the A's or Tigers.

FEAR THE BEARDS! :D

Pirates plugging along right behind St. Louis. I was surprised to see the offensive output in Thursdays game to avoid a home sweep by San Diego. The September races are fun, and it is a great feeling to have the Pirates relevant once again.

Preach it! Being a Sox fan, and having a beard, I need to find out if that is on a T-shirt somewhere. Man, what a turnaround in only a couple of years. When all those trades were happening, I though that the front office had been smoke bombed (as in contact buzz smoke). But I guess they knew what they were doing. Not only do the Sox play well, but they seem to be getting along and really enjoying being a team. That's a step up too. I have the MLB package online so when I'm doing homework I have the game on, homework going, and (of course) checking in here at TB. Multi-tasking at its best. I plan on putting that on my resume when I'm done. Sox/TB/Homework multi-tasking.

They didn't. They all just jumped in the stadium swimming pool to have some fun. Now that I think about it, how many baseball stadiums have swimming pools. Very cool!

Good thing they didn't clinch in Tropicana Stadium - the swimming pool has sting rays!

Last night the Red Sox clinched against the Orioles, the team that beat them on the last day of 2011, that completed the swoon for the ages. Tonight, they have a chance to clinch against the team that Farrell managed last year.

All together now - So good, so good, so good! :D

Sullysbrand.com has this one - there are some other variations out there.

The Sox have had a lot of fun with this. My wife rolls her eyes each time a player hits a home run and his teammates give his beard a little tug when he returns.

Since the coaches for the most part are beardless, it looks like the cast of Mad Men is managing the cast of Duck Dynasty. :D

Mike Napoli's is generally considered the best. Jonny Gomes has said that his little kids get excited when they see Napoli come to bat on TV because they think that it is Daddy.

Which Red Sox beard do you most resemble?

Probably Dempster or Lackey(sp). Mine isn't that long. I watch the games on my laptop a lot because I'm doing homework most of the time. I gotta admit I have to squint to make sure whether or not it's Napoli or Gomes at the plate.

And we clinched the AL EAST! WOOHOOOOOOOOOO! GO SOX! OK boys, 7 games left. Let's put some distance between us and the rest of the pack and blow through some wildcards early!

What a shame I'm in school this year. October will be great.

Pirates wasted a good outing by Liriano against the Reds. Bucs take a 5-3 lead into the 9th, only to have Melancon blow his 2nd save in a row. Now both the Reds and the Pirates are 2 games behind the Cards, who won in extra innings.

Tigers clinch the division and Max "Cy Young" Scherzer pitched 7 shutout innings, striking out 10 for win #21. The scary thing about the Tigers rotation is that Verlander is arguably their fourth of fifth best pitcher this year. And in his last outing he pitched 7 innings of shutout ball with 12 KO's, and 2 BB. Third central title in a row. I like this team I think they are far more complete than last years team that went to the series.

What's that? The Astros are on track to have their worst record in history?

I'm just glad their season will be over on Sunday. I don't doubt they'll improve but we all knew this season was going to be brutal and I know I'm not the only Astros fan who's happy to see this year come to a close.
