Yeah...good pick-up. My Mets are a skeleton crew of no-names.
It's still nice to see them whoopin' on the Nats tonight...especially after the Nats played spoiler a couple of years ago and eliminated us from playoff contention.

Detroit is putting the little Indians out of their misery. The Central division race is over in the AL.:hyper:

In the meanwhile, the Motor City Kitties are 1 pct point behind Boston for the best record in the AL and have the third best record in Baseball. And I'll tell you something, Iglesious is one serious SS. They are a seriously better team than the team that went to the series last year, and have the best run differential (+169)in baseball. They've given up the second fewest runs in the AL (530) and scored the most in baseball (699). I think the scariest number for opposing teams is the TEAM OBP is .350!

He actually pitched real good today, 7 ip, 4 h, 2 W, 6 So, 0 runs. But he hasn't been right since Kate Upton dumped him. Kate, please bring us back our Justin.:D

The scary thing is they've gotten such good pitching from the other four starters they haven't really missed him.

Trading Iglesias to the Tigers via a deal with the pale hose was a subject of serious criticism here in Boston. He is, without a doubt, one of the best SS prospects (and now performers) in the last 30 years. The issue was whether he could hit consistently at the major league level, and the Red Sox had an embarrassment of riches at SS, with Xander Bogaerts now called up (he's not quite as good defensively, but projects to be better offensively).

Time will tell. I wouldn't have traded Iglesias, but I'm not a GM.

Agreed, while is was hard to see Iggy go since his defense was eye-popping and his hitting better than I expected, you need to give up something to get something and Peavey has been great so far and is under Boston's control for another season. Iggy's defense is good enough that as long as he hits .220-.225 he'll have a job in MLB; and if he continues to hit like he has this year, he will be a starter for a contending team. It is not like Detroit's pitchers need much defense behind them, but I am convinced that pitchers pitch better when they have confidence in their up-the-middle defenders.

That said, Bogaerts appears to be the real deal - he is potentially a Nomar/Jeter/Ripkin type of SS which the Red Sox have longed for since Nomar rejected the Sox offer of 4 years at 15M per because it was a little less than what Jeter signed for. It is a small sample size - only 15 ABs but but he is hitting .333/.375/.400 right now. Even though he still only 20, he doesn't look overmatched out there. Hopefully he'll play a fair amount in the Detroit/NY/TB series coming up and I'd love to here what fans of other teams think about him - I am prone to seeing things through carmine goggles at times. :D

The Sox have just won four series in a row and are starting to put a little distance between themselves and Tampa. They'll need to keep up that pace to win the division, but I like their chances.

We got us a tie in the NL Central. St. Louis came back with a vengeance to avoid the sweep.

Pirates get Morneau for some minor leaguers. Interesting move, and probably a heartbreaker for Twins fans.

For the first time in 20 l-o-n-g years, the Pirates will not finish the season with a losing record. WOOT!!! WOOT!!!!

Way to go Melancon coming in to wrap up that win. Nice double from Byrd, great run producing in the eight, and a beauty of a HR from McCutcheon, the All-Star no one has heard of. :D

Travis Snider with the game winning homer in the ninth. I love it. So awesome, especially after the Brewers came back to tie it in the bottom of the 8th.

Oh, and the Pirates got Grilli back today.

Brett Lawrie is like watching a highlight real every game. I don't know if there is a better defensive third baseman in the league.

Melancon was supposed to be the replacement at closer for Papelbon in Boston but it didn't work out. He and Burnett seem to have revived their careers while helping to revive the Pirates - good all around.

BTW - how is Burnett 7-9 with a 3.09 ERA? No run support at all? Lackey is experiencing that this year in Boston - pitching well 3.22 ERA but is only 8-12. The Sox have been shut out 6 times while Lack is on the mound.

I feel your pain but as a Dodger fan I can deal with it with a smirk on my face. It's hard to believe that the Giants were the world champs last year. Now they are in the cellar in the NLW and are back 16-1/2 games behind the Dodgers. What a difference one season can make. BTW...thanks for giving us Brian Wilson. So far, he doing a great job.

I hate the Dodgers but I also respect them. I am glad about the new ownership and positive changes. I just wish the Giants were doing well so we could have some real rivalry.
