Ash bodied P bass, 60s style J bass, 2 active 5 strings with ebony boards... Plus a guitar. All perfectly setup, all sound great, all fun.

I have no worries.

I am NOT the guy to look to in order to justify the expense to your girlfriend. My most expensive bass is my Ibanez SR480 bought new on clearance. I think full retail was about $480.00 or so 12 + years ago...

Here's my most expensive instrument. 2009 Warwick Rockbass Streamer Standard. $300 secondhand. I think my VM Fretless ties that too. I need to update the picture, there's a lot more wear on it now, and I think it looks a lot nicer.

I spent around $4,300 on my Sadowsky NYC and $2,995 on my Fender Custom Shop 1959 Precision bass - both were worth every dime and I expect to hold on to for as long as I keep playing.
What kills me is to think of what I've lost on all the gear I've flipped during my lifetime - either a product of GAS or just not really knowing what worked for me. By quick count, I've churned through 8 amps, 4 cabs and 7 basses that just didn't make the cut. Some I kept for a while, some I flipped really quickly, but all for big losses.
As for me and my girl, I'm super lucky I guess. She loves seeing me buy nice basses, wants them hanging on our wall because she thinks they're beautiful and encourages me to play as much as I can. We both work, maintain separate accounts and split expenses 50/50 - it works.

Not trying to create any sort of bragging thread. My fiancee think's it's absolutely insane to spend close to $2,800 on the bass I want (5 string Valenti), and I'm generally curious to see what others have spent on their high end basses.

My current most expensive bass is a Classic Stingray 4. Retails new around $2,000.. I got it used for $1,220.

God I wished my Zon Legacy Elite 6 string was $2800.00, I bought it brand new and I'm not going to say how much I paid but it is the most I've ever paid for a bass.
I love it though and it plays AMAZING!!!!

My most expensive bass is my new Deluxe Dimension V. 'Cause I just bought it new, I paid retail. I really liked it in the store and its proven to be a beast live so, I have no regrets. 6-10 gigs from now, it'll be paid for...oh yeah, I bought it with saved gig money!

No biggie.

Back in '98 I purchased a new Warwick Thumb 6 for about $3k or so iirc. Bought my Pedulla Pentabuzz for $2k. Have a few other basses, none of which are cheap by any means, but I don't regret any of the purchases.
