your progression on amps

Some Fender thing that was 50 watts I think (can't remember the model--it's been a while). Somebody borrowed it a long time ago and I never saw it again.

A Peavey TKO75 w/"Black Widow" speaker that I bought used for $70 about 14 years ago. (still have, but it's horrible).

Ashdown MAG300C210 combo plugged into one of the British-made Ashdown 1x15 cabs. Been great thus far for the price. The Peavey probably has at least 30 pounds on this complete setup (the combo and the 15) and it only has a 15...my back is much happier (and it sounds a hell of a lot better).

Well, I have not really owned a lot of gear for a person my age but here it is.

first amp (1981-82), a PolyTone Mini Brute
This amp suffered a melt down as I discovered what ohms where, the hard way. My first home made extension cab work fine, but when I added the second, POP!... no worky. ehhh, I was young and didn't know any better. Had it fixed and still use it today as my practice amp.

2nd, Acoustic head and 1X15 cab. I was ready to play out now, so picked them up used. Don't remember the model. 270??

3rd, Mesa Boogie Bass 400+ moved on up to the big boys.
After using this for about a year or so I had a problem with it, so what do you do when you still live at home and have cash flow......

Buy a GK800RB. Sounded great with the Boogie 2X15 cab but even better when I bi-amped it with a Bag End AF1A-C
After playing the GK for 10+ years it started to die, plus the Bag End was 120 lbs.

Current set up:
Alembic F-1X, Stewart World 2.1,
SWR Goliath jr III (2X10)
Big Ben (1X18)

Now I am thinking about dumping the bi-amp and getting a modern cab with 10's I am leaning towards the Epifani UL310

It never ends you know.

Funny thing is with the exception of the Acoustic set up, I still own this stuff. Just can't get rid of it.

Reading your posts has reminded me of even more stuff that I used to own ang gig with including my Polytone Minibrutef rom '82 with the 12" ( which I see in my studio almost every day)and I actually owned a Roland Bass Cube ( remember those?) and a Gibson Lab series combo with a 15" . Also had me one of those wierd shaped Gibson guitar heads and a 60's twin reverb but those were also guitar days. Hard to believe you can blank out an era of time by equipment but realizing that I owned some of these has eluded my life memory for a good ( or bad) 20 years 'til this moment. Before I had kids, I guess

Waiting impatiently for tombowlus to post... ;)

Is there a posting limit? The Tom Bowlus mega thread?

Crate combo (100 watt 115, forget the model number)
200 Watt crate head, nameless 215 cabinet.
Same head and a 410/115 crate cabinet.
Trace Elliot all tube head (again forget the model, it was big and green), Hartke 410TP/115TP then upgraded to 4.5XL/115XL.
Same cabs and a Hartke 7000 head. This was a great rig and saw me through a lot of gigs, at least for a 16 year old.

Then I went to college and sold everything, got a Peavey 115TNT which was my only amp until....

TODAY, when I bought a Mesa M-Pulse 600 and a Powerhouse 410.

- dad's '70s Bassman 10 combo
- dad's Peavey "Bass" head / Peavey 215 cab (Black Widow)
- dad's Peavy Mk IV head
- my own Hartke 3500 / TP410 / 15" JBL in custom cab (I later sold Hartke to my dad)
- Alembic F-1X/Crest FA-800
- Eden 210XLT (used with JBL 15")
- replaced Crest with QSC PLX3002
- EA CXL112
- iAmp800
- Shure PSM600 (in-ear-monitors) / Radial JDI / dbx 1231EQ
- 2nd EA CXL112
- currently back to iAmp800 / 2 EA CXL112

started with a fender p bass and a little $150 fender amp. sold it all.

got an 83 mm stingray. played through an eden navigator/1000watt stewart power amp/eden 410xlt

lost 83 stingray. bought new 2eq mm stingray. ups tracking has it arriving today.

In the seven years I've been playing bass, I've only owned one bass amp - my Peavey Combo 300. I've played bass through a couple of my guitar amps, but the Combo 300 sounds the best. One of these days I'll actually buy an extension cab and let it REALLY rock...

Here goes

Holmes 1x12 combo (about 30 watts)
Peavey Mk III head with peavey 215 cab
"" "" "" "" with peavey 1516 cab
Peavey Databass combo (500 watts, and you could lift it with one hand. I was an idiot to sell it!)
Peavey Tmax 115 combo

and, my new rig, as of yesterday (drumroll please)

Mesa boogie Buster Bass all tube head, with SWR Son of Bertha 115 cab and Goliath Jr. 2x10 cab!! ( i think i'll stick with this one for a while)
