Double Bass youtube orchestra

I was going to try out, but my school's region orchestra tryouts came up.
i probably wouldn't have made it anyways.
I think the real problem with Youtube Symphony is that it doesn't offer any real-world training, y'know? Yeah, it's cool to have Michael Tilson Thomas as your conductor at Carnegie Hall, but to have play a premiere piece by Tan Dun?
As a trumpet-playing friend of mine pointed out to me, it would have been more enticing as this: "Come play in the Youtube Symphony at Carnegie. On the first night you'll perform Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, and on the second, you'll perform a piece written by Tan Dun, both conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas."
Much more appealing.

I wonder if enough great musicians actually audition to make this youtube symphony as good of an orchestra as they make it seem like it will be...or maybe youtube is just stuck with some people who aren't even that good and just auditioned and they have to take them cause of not enough applicants?

haha, there's crime in every city. if you want to play in the orchestra, go, have a good time, and watch yourself as you would in any city.
I had thought about it but summer festival auditions took over. seemed just a little more rewarding.
Really NYC is one of the safest cities. Especially Manhattan. There are a few bad areas that you might not want to venture in to but you probably wouldn't go anywhere near those areas if you are just visiting. Since there are so many people in NYC the crime is more visible but no more rampant than any other major city. It's an amazing city.

I've watched most of the submissions and there are about 4 or 5 that stand out above the rest. I haven't seen all of them so don't get mad if I didn't put up your favorite one.
Again I didn't see all the videos, and I'm not really even qualified to critique these people, just sharing my thoughts.
