Zon basses - is everything OK ?

I didn't really put down a deposit, I took them at their word and paid in full...plunked it all down.

In the Darrin Huff thread, Fuzzbass paid for his bass in full. He also sent a Musicman bass as payment. Years later, still no bass. Huff sold the Musicman. :( The lesson is, never pay the full amount before the bass is ready. Hopefully Rumblefisher's story will have a different ending.

I paid in full too, d’oh.

A few years ago, someone here paid in full up front for two Zons. Only one arrived -- after 2+ years. He got reimbursed for the other (also 2+ years) after filing a claim via his valuable personal property insurance policy.

When I ordered my Zon I negotiated 25% down instead of 50%, and my bass arrived after 9 months. But as noted above, I'm also the guy who put 100% down on a Huff bass that's still nothing but air after 18 years, so I can't claim to be more clever than anyone else.

When did you order your Zon?

Definitely a possibility. I only wish they did their mids more like conventional basses with the knob as the boost/cut and the switch as a frequency selector.

I've never seen a bass with a circuit like you're describing with a "switch" for the frequency selector, but, Rob can in all likelihood make custom circuits for any of his basses. The CW model has a circuit with a knob for the parametric frequency selector *and* a knob for amount of cut/boost. That would just about cover it, I would think.

Hey guys! I'm here with a bit of encouraging news. The last time I spoke with Joe about my build, he had told me that things were delayed because the preamp he needed was backordered. Based on other accounts in the Zon threads, I was concerned about the validity of that statement. I'm a bit relieved in that the company that makes the preamp actually confirmed that there were significant delays with that particular preamp, and that after many months they were slated to head out to Zon in the next few weeks. I don't know if that will clear up my specific build immediately, but it did ease my mind quite a bit. The builder was apologetic and said he'd had a crazy year (understandable) and that things were finally getting back on track. Here's to hope!

Despite some of the sharper sentiments, I do think Joe Zon tells the truth. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful that my fellow TB members feel indignant on our behalf, as it mostly comes from a place of fraternity. I do think we will all get our basses at some point, perhaps a bit later for me if they decide to let me have the redesign.

Interesting read. These basses must magically transform the player into the second coming of Jaco to put up with what some have posted. To each their own i guess. I wish those waiting the best of luck.

It's also possible to get a Zon-ish sound without a Zon. Many moons ago, I ordered a Conklin with a Dymondwood fingerboard and Bartolini pickups. Barts and Dymondwood/Rockwood really bring out that high end fretless tone. Graphite is obviously very strong and stable. My Conklin neck is dang near bullet proof and has barely moved since I got it.
