Zon basses - is everything OK ?

Bartolinis. They may be quiet, but I've heard better sounding pickups in, I dunno, every other bass I've ever played.
Hm, how does yours compare to what we can hear on YT?

The TB'r I bought it from had tried buying it back from me a few times; it holds some sentimental value to him. I may actually say 'yes' one is these days, if/when I get my new one.
Well, I didn't really expect an answer that would make me delighted, but now of course I have to ask: any chance you'd let someone try it out just to see if they are willing to plunk down hard-earned cash for a new custom order from Zon?

Certainly, there would be a mess of logistics to be worked out, but if I can at least get a "maybe" then it's something. I have an 8 from Schechter, but I think the two are probably worlds apart.
:D

Saw Grand Funk in Las Vegas on Friday, Mel REALLY makes some Thunder with his Sonus, I played a 519 for nearly 10 years, the neck was always too flat for me, but that's strictly a me thing.
Folks - this thread is focused on folks whose orders are long overdue.
Let's steer general Zon discussion back to the Zon club thread please. Official Zon Club Part 5

Bought a Zon from producer Kieth Olsen for $200 bucks. I play left, it was a right . Gave it to my cousin, a poor working bass player. He took it to Zon for a lost knob and it was serial #17 owned by Mike Porcaro of Toto.
It was a very impressive bass to play. Without knowing the pedigree, Zon makes some fine instruments! Mike was recording with Joe Walsh at Goodnight LA studio.

Since we are back on track I'll ask the question has anybody that has a Zon on order that has been waiting past there due date, any updates or status of your order, inquiring minds want to know!!!!
Thanks for checking in. Emailed and called in September no response. Would be interested to get a list of everyone who is waiting regardless of when order was placed. You can PM me. So far I know of @Rumblefisher, @bigsnack, @JuanB, @Jefus, @InNoRush. Thanks.

I'm waiting on some work to be done to a Zon bass that is at the shop, 50% down. Was told 2-3 months; it's been 5 months, and no word from them in some time despite multiple emails.

I generally go far out of my way to avoid saying anything negative about owner-operated businesses, but there's a strong enough pattern here that makes it obligatory to speak up, at least in the interest of those who might be wondering about the scale of the problem before they commission work.

Being such a huge fan of the work that has come out of the shop over the decades, it pains me to say anything negative, but things seem about to the point where it would be wrong not to.

I hope that they can turn it around.

What work are they going to do on the bass?

Thanks for the information. I think all of us are rooting for Joe to turn his ship around and get things worked out. Best of luck with your repair and I hope it gets done soon let us know when it happens.

Doesn't really help the folks who are waiting.

That was pretty snarky.. just a Zon story.
We are at page #20 ~ Happy mothers day to you too!

I don't think it was meant as snark, but those kinds of fun stories about Zons are for the Zon Club or whatever it's called. This is a sticky thread specifically meant to help people who are dealing with a company seemingly intent on NOT building the basses that were paid for. Hence why what was said to you was said

not to be a buttinsky, but I do have my own Zon story which I feel is relevant.
more years ago than I care to admit I snagged a pass to NAMM. even though I was a teenager, when it came to bass, I knew my "stuff" (I really hate these profanity filters. just ruins the story).
the overwhelming majority of vendors were happy to talk to me - sometimes even amused - but in general they were friendly, warm, and accommodating, even if they didn't respect me. Jens Ritter even let me play one of his basses that (may or may not have been sold) when I got all gushy romantic. we had a good laugh. Pedulla and Fodera were an absolute joy to talk to, and very informative.
Zon, however...
I was fascinated with their product. I profess that I'd never played one of their instruments before, which is why I was hoping to talk to basically anybody there. I was playing a lined fretless, but I just couldn't get it to work (it turned out it was just out of tune and I was relying on the lines too much). I asked my buddy to BASSically (HA!) go ask for help, and the Zon guys literally just looked over their shoulders and said "yeah, sure".
then they laughed. literally laughed at someone who was scouting out basses for our shop. but more importantly, just laughed at another human being just doing its best. it was made abundantly clear I wasn't worth their time.
so I put the bass back on the rack, gave them a silent "F-you" in my brain, and never turned back. we went to lunch and paid like $18 for a chicken salad sandwich.
NAMM sucks. but so does Zon dealing with potential customers. they're Zon, and I suppose they think you're "lucky" to be dealing with them at all.
their shaging luck.

Perhaps if there were more companies offering graphite necks things would be different.

@Apolicious , sorry to hear that you have such a hard time expressing yourself without profanity. And that you had such a bad experience with Zon so many years ago.

I have never had anything but positive experiences with Joe and the Zon staff - polite and accommodating all the time.
And my bass was completed and delivered pretty much exactly when it was promised.

Again, it seems like there are a few outstanding cases, not a wave of them. With that said, I feel really sad and angry that the waiters (@mrgittleman , @Rumblefisher and @bigsnack ) have had their basses so significantly delayed and have been misled more than once on the status.

That's really the issue here.
