Zon basses - is everything OK ?

There's just no excuse for that. Period. Five years? Ridiculous.

2020 has been rough. The pandemic poses challenges for everyone, and Zon production had been hampered by smoke from the massive CA wildfires. That said, these recent events do not justify 3, 4, 5+ year waits.

Any updates on your build, @Rumblefisher?

Nothing. I gotta say, I'm kind of over this bass at this point...even if it blows me away I may have to sell it as financial circumstances have changed over the past 3 years since this was ordered...at least I would have had some time to enjoy it had it arrived on time :(

I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope your circumstances change for the better.

Just wondering why the Huff bass thread is a sticky and Zon that has been ripping players off for the past few years is not? Just because they are a brand known name?

I don’t think Zon is actually ripping people off he just takes an incredibly long time to finish his builds.

What mrgittleman said, and he is one of the worst cases for Zon. I don't believe the majority of Zon orders are excessively delayed, and the longest wait I'm aware of has been roughly six years (give or take). That is not a good track record, but Zon has been more reliable than not for what, 3 decades now? OTOH, Darrin Huff started in the early 00's, and has a terrible success rate: at least as many incompletions as completions from what I can tell, and wait times are closing in on 20 years -- 17-2/3 years for me.

17+ years? That is absolutely insane.

I won't argue with that. Let's just say I'm not optimistic that I'll ever get my bass, but Darrin keeps saying he'll deliver, so I keep following along for entertainment value. As the saying goes, tragedy plus time equals comedy.

What's a sticky and where can I find it? I've had an account for a while but only recently started using it. Thank you.

"Sticky" threads are in the top section of each forum, and remain there even when inactive -- which is why they are called "sticky". The Darrin Huff warning thread is near the top of the Basses forum. It started in 2006, and is now over 200 pages long. I'll answer the obvious questions right now: yes, legal action was discussed (numerous times) by those of us on his waiting list. No, it never happened (not that I'm aware of), and that's because "you can't get blood from a stone"... in other words, legal action is a LOT more trouble than it's worth.

P.S. Just want to reiterate that Zon is not in the same category as Darrin Huff, not by a long shot.

I respect your opinion.

However, for the greater good of the bass community, I think that this thread should be a sticky. We should know about this stuff.

More than three years to wait for a bass build, at least one person waiting reportedly six years...the TB community should know what they are getting into when they deal with Zon. For most people, that is completely and utterly unacceptable. It's also disrespectful.
