Zon basses - is everything OK ?

It did. Very impressed and happy with the way it turned out. Playability was perfect out of the box. Glad I opted for coil tapping.

Here’s a quick pic until I find a bit more time and better lighting:

Absolutely stunning. Very close to the instrument I would've ordered years ago if I could. I bet it sounds and plays incredible. Congrats!!!

Is the volume control also the switching mechanism? Love the instrument, but having a hard time imagining how pickup selection and coil tapping happens with only a single knob?!?
I have rear accessible trim pots for Volume / Volume / Bass / Mid / Treble / Level. The volume knob on the front is push pull for coil tapping.

Sure love to see a dedicated review thread for that work of art there.

Oh, so how do you select pickups then, or are they both always on?
They're both always on. I can take the volume on one to zero and compensate overall mix with the level pot. I'm overly paranoid about accidentally changing settings when recording. This is the second time I've had him do this on a bass (it sounds like fairly hard to wire).

I bet the wiring job takes a minute for sure.

Congrat! It it stunning! I really like the design with one single knob in the front, so clean. That thing must Roar!

The battery is brand new, the sound is incredible and not distorted but way too loud. And the gain on the preamp must be set nearly off.
I can lower the pickups, but that will result in a less responsive attack. The distance between strings and pickups is approx. 8 to 10mm.
Strings are most probably Ernie Ball 2832 Regular Slinky, but I'm not sure.

Very cool! An early one, I would guess. Before they added the internal mid trim pot (which can indeed get quite loud) which was in turn before actually putting the mid control on the front.

Love the old school logo too.

As for your volume, I can only suggest playing with the EQ. One thing I love about Zons is that the EQ is usable ALL the way up and down. So yeah, you can definitely crank it and will still sound fine but may be way hotter than another bass.

Grats on an awesome score!

I just want to point out something that I think should be obvious, but clearly is not.

Rumblefish and the others who had to wait years after promise date could EASILY file a case in small claims court against Joe Zon. You don't need a lawyer in a case this cut and dried, and filing a small claims case is incredibly inexpensive. A few days in court would quickly change the way Zon does business, and it would resolve your issues as well.

Don't be a sucker that enables unfair business practices. Initiate positive change and fairness by using the law.
