It cleans it. It should be a more black color. Maybe the construction process leaves some fine composite dust or something.

Maybe a little, but their fingerboards do normally vary in color.Strange. My fingerboard was gray from day one (brand new bass). Are you saying the WD40 just turns the board black?
Here's my main bass

I wondered about that. Yeah, Bubinga is really dense. However, you must also have a pretty heavy piece of ash as well... my Sonus Special 5 fretless is also bubinga on ash, but it's and it's only 9.3 pounds, tho it is my heaviest Zon. My Custom and one of my Sonus 5's is pretty much 9, but my redwood top'd Sonus 5 is only 7.5 (tho you'd never know it to hear it)!Hmm, just checked i think just under 10 pnds. It's my heaviest bass cause of the bubinga i presume.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure the main reason for its weight is it's a particularly light piece of ash. Even if it had a bubinga top on it, I'm sure it'd still be 8 pounds or less.is redwood usually light? What's the body wood on that Sonus?

Man, I always appreciate your memory of this, and really envy you for having the opps to hang out there for a while. That had to be just plain stoopid fun.Your redwood zon is one of the lightest, and most acoustically resonant zons I saw when I was there. You got a good one dude!
I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, since you're talking about a 4 string bass but then you mention a 5 string. Let me ask this... what exactly would you prefer to tune the Zon to?Greetings, fellow bassplayers!
seems like the best place to put my question here: I've got the opportunity to get a Zon Legacy 4str. quite cheap from a fellow bassplayer... round about 900-1000$.
Thing is: most of the time i play Deathmetal, means down-tuned quite a bit, so i normally use a 35' 5stringer on B#....
so, what do you guys think? Could the Legacy handle it?
Thanx for your help in advance
