Zon

And in all fairness, it could just be the user. I can dial my Modulus Q5 in just about any room I play in. But I have had it three years and it took time for me to figure it out.
I have a jam setup with a drummer tonight.:hyper: we'll see how it goes.
Also, this bass might sound completely different once I get my Eden 6x10XLT.

And don't be shy about trying a new battery, just in case...
Good call... the Polyfusion preamps go through batteries faster than the bart preamps, not fast, but faster, so it'd probably be a great idea just to make sure. I have no idea what one of these might do on a weak power supply.

I have a polyfusion, it makes very short clipping sound every 5 seconds, then gets progressively faster until it's clipping multiple times a second.

My battery died last sunday at rehearsal :bawl: :bawl: :p

Yes, after trying the Zon out in a live situation thru a different amp in a different location, the bass sounded much different. I realized that there were alot of other factors involved with my first perception of the bass when I first plugged it in. There were alot of weird frequencies in my spare room. The Ampeg cab that I first tried it with did not match up well.

The lows and low mids on this bass are very prominent and warm. With my Modulus these are the frequencies that I dial in for a good sound. The Zon already has them ready to go. The sound of Zon is definetly unique, it is however, a good sound. I used a Hartke 4x10 cab with my SWR which sounded very nice. The Schroeder sounded like...well... a Schroeder. I also used my Eden head which sounded the best.

The comfort and balance of this bass was great. I was not uncomfortable playing it at all and the neck felt good in my hands. My hands are big so I like that kind of neck

One thing that I didn't like was how close the level of the fingerboard is to the top of the bass. It was a factor when doing the slap pop thing. I'm sure that I could get used to it though. Again I am comparing it to the Modulus.

Overall my experience was good. I was not blown away because my expectations may have been unrealistic. When I think back, it was the same way with my Q5. As much as I started to like this bass, it wasn't enough to make me put 3 grand on the table. Given the materials and craftsmenship of these bass, I would rather buy a used one. I know that the neck would be good no matter what. And of course I would save some scratch.

So in the end, the Zon went back.

I think is bad luck to show a bass before you even receive it (I know its stupid :smug: )but I am dying to share with all of you my new big boy.

Traded the LW to Tony at Planet Bass who custom ordered the Sonus for me.

I love my Sonus Custom 5 (quilted Spalt top).

What is the top wood on this bass? It's really nice.

I'm also wondering what the top wood is on SimonPaez's too.

I wish Joe Zon would put examples of some of the top wood options on his site. I've been thinking about have a VB5 built :)
