Zon

Greetings, fellow bassplayers!
seems like the best place to put my question here: I've got the opportunity to get a Zon Legacy 4str. quite cheap from a fellow bassplayer... round about 900-1000$.
Thing is: most of the time i play Deathmetal, means down-tuned quite a bit, so i normally use a 35' 5stringer on B#....
so, what do you guys think? Could the Legacy handle it?
Thanx for your help in advance

B# huh? I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there is no B#. Half-step above a B is C, not B#.

Anyhoo... even if there was a B#, that would be "up-tuning" the B string not down-tuning it...

No, just that in certain keys you have to call a C a B# to be proper- there are a lot of instances in which it can happen. Not super common, but happens.

In THIS case, I'm sure it's not what he meant, so I agree with you on that!

Sorry, my fault (should drink a cup of coffee before i type)
Well: Normally i do play a five stringer, tuned down on A#...(a half step? sorry, my english sucks...).
What i wanna know now- would the legacy handle a tuning like this? means a 4 string tuned on A#!?
I think your biggest problem is the guage of the E string, which has nothing to do with the bass, of course. Tuned down that low, it would be unplayable, IMHO.

However, if you had the nut re-cut to support much larger strings and went to a custom set, say 120-125,90-100,80-90,50-60 or something along those lines, you should be able to tune where you want it VERY nicely (because it wouldn't really be so much "tuning down" for those strings). 5 string Zons are killer, and the B is VERY nice.

I just worry if the b-string will sound clear enough then?
If the guage is right, yes it will, because it then won't be any different from the B string on a regular 5 string Zon, and those are awesome. What you have to decide is exactly how you want to tune the bass. From there, you need to match string guages to best fit your needs, cut the nut to fit, done. Work great, last long time, ugh, good, good bass, good... :D

I've always sworn by my Zons and will never part with them. I guess I haven't graced these pages in a long time (almost two years?!) and I have some brushing up to do...
but shouldn't there be a "Zon Club" if there isn't one already?
The club thing is new to me, but I think this would be an obvious one.
Guess I should bust out my digital camera soon.
