Zoom b3 patch Ideas

At the moment I'm still at the stage of twiddling knobs in my bedroom (You know what I mean!!) and trying out different stuff that you've posted.

I record anything that sounds good, even though I don't think I'll use a lot of it live, but it sure is better than watching rubbish on the telly!

There's so many patches here already, but I was wondering if you've got any pointers for a Macca type sound like "Goodnight Tonight"?

I guess it's a fuzz and some other sort of distortion, but I can't seem to get there...

This sounds more mid focus. distortion or fuzz hasn't been used in this song...listening to this song does give me an idea for a patch. give this patch a try and see if you like it.

Uber retro bass

Hi Crystal,

I'm playing in a band now that covers 90's alternative songs.

Just recently got the B3 and I have already tried and saved a lot of your patches here and Greg's.

Just want to know if you have the perfect patch for the bass tone in In Bloom of Nirvana and another for the bass tone of Creep by Radiohead. I am a newbie when it comes to bass tones and have been reading up on this thread you have been quite a help. Thanks.

Actually it's crystalman, and secondly what a coincidence. I play in a 90s alternative rock cover band. as for a krist novosellic sound, he uses ampeg amps like any other 90s rock bassists. here's what I came up with if breed by nirvana happens to be in your band's setlist.

Novosellic bass

Section 1: m comp: thresh:25, ratio: 4, level: 90, attack: 3

Section 2: squeak: gain: 40, tone: 50, level: 90, balance: 25

Section 3: svt: bass: 3, mid: 5, treble: 2, midfq: 250hz, gain: 40, level: 30, ultra: both, cab: sb4x12, mix: 50

You can use the squeak distortion model(which is based on the proco rat) if you play breed or parts of heart-shaped box. krist did use a proco rat as his distortion for those songs. as for creep, I figure it's nothing more than a warm compressed bass sound. give this patch a try.

Warm alternative bass

Section 1: limiter: thresh: 23, ratio: 4, level: 90, release: 5

Section 2: bottom b: bass: 3, treble: 2, level: 70

Section 3: b-man: bass: 4, mid: 4, treble: 2, midfq: 250hz, gain: 40, level: 70, deep: off, cab: ag8x10, mix: 50

Here's my patch to get a Muse - Hysteria tone.

Booster -> Great Muff -> D Comp

Booster: 39 Gain, 2 Bass, 3 Treble, 78 Level
Muff: 27 Gain, 55 Tone, 76 Level, 18 Balance
D Comp: 7 Sense, 6 Tone, 125 Level, Attack: Fast

I've played around with a few versions and liked this best. I started out with a patch I found here, but it wasn't doing it for me. From there I tried Bass Muff -> Great Muff -> Amp Sim, which was close, and then Booster -> Great Muff -> Amp Sim which was a step back, because the fuzz hollowed out my tone a bit. The compressor at the end did it for me. Not exact, but close enough for me.

I'm playing on a Yamaha RBX 375 (HH 5-string), modified to passive wiring direct to the jack so everything on the bass itself is dimed. Amp is a Fender Rumble, Bass and Low Mid at 1 o'clock, High Mid and Treble at detent. Gain is at 7 o'clock and the CONTOUR switch is on, so you may need to some eq work to make it work for you.

This tone also works pretty well for Supermassive Black Hole.

Here's a new patch Idea I came up with. this patch duplicates the the warm overdrive sounds of a solidgold fx beta bass overdrive pedal.

Beta bass drive

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 4, level: 90, attack: 4

Section 2: bass bb: gain:10, bass: 3, treble: 4, blend:40, level: 80

Section 3: flip top: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: -2, midfq: 300hz, gain: 40, level: 80, ultra: low, cab: ac1x18, mix: 50

Here's another patch idea I came up with. this patch duplicates the thick distorted sounds of a dod boneshaker. particularly this patch closely emulates the thick distorted sound from a setting that andy from pro guitar shop has demoed on bass on a youtube clip. resulting in having a thick heavy sound suitable for rock and metal music.
