Zoom b3 patch Ideas

Here's another patch idea I came up with. this patch is a warm overdrive sound that sounds like across between the carl martin bass drive and the solidgold fx beta drive.

Dark beta drive

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 90, attack: 5

Section 2: bass bb: gain: 10, bass: 3, treble: 2, blend: 70, level: 75

Section 3: b-man: 4, mid: 3, treble: -2, midfq: 300hz, gain: 45, level: 80, deep: off, cab: pt1x15, mix: 50

Here's another patch idea I came up with. this patch has a warm and heavy distortion sound with smooth compression.

Metal bassman 2

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 90, attack: 5

Section 2: squeak: gain: 50, tone: 45, level: 90, balance: 25

Section 3: b-man: 4, mid: 3, treble: -2, midfq: 300hz, gain: 45, level: 80, deep: off, cab: pt1x15, mix: 50

I took a listen to the light by spock's beard and parts of the song sounds like a bright tube sound with some chorus. and the other part sounds like there's some distortion added. give this patch a try and see if this works out for you.

Spock's beard(clean)

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 17, ratio: 4, level: 90, attack: 5

Section 2: stereo chorus: depth: 70, rate: 25, mix: 50, locut: 180hz, level: 90

Section 3: svt: bass: 4, mid: 3, treble: 2, midfq: 200hz, gain: 30, level: 35, ultra: both, cab: e4x10, mix: 50

Spock's beard(distorted)

Section 1: overdrive: gain: 5, tone: 10, level: 90, balance: 15

Section 2: stereo chorus: depth: 70, rate: 25, mix: 50, locut: 180hz, level: 90

Section 3: svt: bass: 4, mid: 3, treble: 2, midfq: 200hz, gain: 30, level: 35, ultra: both, cab: e4x10, mix: 50

Not quite sure if this patch would work, but give it a try. if that doesn't work, try using the aguilar amp model with a sansamp model.
That worked pretty well! I don;t have a Ric currently to test it out on but I would think a Ric with the bridge pickup soloed would get you close!
Thank you!

Okay C-Man,
I've got another challenge for you if you choose to accept it. ;) Pete Trewavas from Marillion is one of my favorite bass players. He gets some really great tones in my opinion. His main bass is a Warwick Thumb with stainless steel roundwounds. He plays with a pick and his fingers but mainly the pick. He uses a Digitech Rp1000 guitar processor for his effects. Check out these two clips if you have a chance.
7:10 for his REALLY dirty sound.
This one has the dirt and an octaver effect?
this is more of his twang sound.

The first one sounds like a compressed distorted sound. here's what I came up with.

Marillion bass distortion

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 100, attack: 4

Section 2: d.i plus: bass: 4, mid: 3, treble: -4, gain: 50, blend: 45, level: 110, color: on, chan: dist

Section 3: heaven: bass: 4, mid: 4, treble: 3, 250hz, gain: 50, level: 85, enhnc: 2, cab: e4x10, mix: 50

the 2nd one kinda sounds like a clean pitch shifting effect. and the 3rd one seems like a real synch. it sounds like a basic bright bass sound with some compression. here's what I came up with for the 3rd one.

Marillion clean bass

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 5, level: 100, attack: 4

Section 2: exciter: bass: 3, treble: 2, level: 80 or pitchsift: shift: 0, tone: 4, balance: 50, fine: 5, level: 100

Section 3: heaven: bass: 4, mid: 4, treble: 3, 250hz, gain: 50, level: 85, enhnc: 2, cab: e4x10, mix: 50

Too cool! Thank you! I can't wait to try these out this weekend.
Take care,

Poking around this unit, couldn't seem to find an octave up. I wanted to try to simulate a brassmaster or black cat (octave/fuzz). I saw the Oct/dist, but it was an Oct down and didn't track well.
Any ideas gang?

I don't have mine with me at the moment, but I seem to recall that the Pitch Shifter tracked a little better than the Octaver.
There's an adjustment in both, from memory, that allows you to choose either down an octave or up to two octaves up.

You won't get a Brassmaster fuzz sound. You can get an octave up with either the mono pitch of the pitch shifter but it won't sound anything like a brassmaster it will sound like a fuzz and a digital octave up. Not bad but not a brassmaster.

I'll throw my hat in the ring here - I use my B-3 as a pre-amp, feeding a QSC power amp with fEARful full-range speakers. Your mileage may vary if you're using it in the effects loop (might need to reduce levels on some of the effects) or with bass speakers that will add some coloring (may want to dial back the "mix" parameter on the SVT). This gives me a nice heavy rock tone that I can use for most stuff in my classic rock cover bands - when I want some tonal variety, I either just adjust my basses' tone knob or switch the ParaEQ in (or out).

JS-SVT:

Section 1 - 160Comp: Thrsh: -10, Ratio: 4.1, Gain: 7, Knee: soft, Level: 70
Section 2 - ParaEQ: Freq1: 100Hz, Q1: 8, Gain1: -15, Freq2: 800Hz, Q2: 2, Gain2: 10, Level: 100
Section 3 - SVT: Bass: 1, Mid: 4, Trebl: 7, Mid_F: 350Hz, Gain: 30, Level: 100, Ultra: off, Cab: 4x10 SWR, Mix: 100

Interesting.
I just went to load this patch into my MS100-BT and found that it's ParaEQ effect only goes as far as -12 on the Gain function.

I wonder why Zoom elected to change it from that of the B3 and MS60-B (which I just checked for the same thing.)

Very interesting patch. I tried it and am happy with what I hear.
The airy high end is something I never really tried with my B3, but it sounds nice with your settings.

On my own, I have the feeling that the SVT sim with a good amount of SVT cab sim sounds better with the High Ultra engaged (clearer, and more natural than with a boost of the highs), but it produces a lot of hiss.

I'll play around a bit with your suggestion. Never had a "real" SVT so I was just twiddling stuff until things sounded good. I've used this patch with a few different basses - an Ibanez Blazer, a Fender Squier P-Bass, and a Rickenbacker 4003.

I never owned a SVT neither :)
My purpose was just to say that, with my basses (both passive : a jazz and a precision) and my cab which has a not too coloured tone, I didn't find tones that were clear enough with the SVT cab sim and only plyaing with the eq of the SVT amp model. But with Ultra High engaged things get way more clearer, but there's a good amount of hiss, so not quite perfect.
What I like with your patch is that it sounds completely different from the things I get with the B3 when I tweak it, but I feel it may work well in a band setting. I feel good lows and the amount of highs and mids may give me the clarity I like to have.
And the fact you cut a bit at 100 hz really helps to prevent boominess. That's nice.

I am really not a tone expert and I usually just try to find something which works with my band and then I'm happy :) But sometimes things are not easy.

I apologize if this question has already been answered (I just don't have the time to read the 63 pages before this one).
Anyway, since the content of a .b3p file is just XML (try opening a .b3p file in Notepad and see for yourself), has anyone tried to change values to above or below the values that can be set directly on the B3? Does it work when you copy the file to the B3?

I have a B1xon, but since they share the same effects and chip this should work here.

This is a transparent overdrive inspired by Crystalman85's darkglass patch, but heavily tweaked for the incredible transparency and clarity the real B3k delivers. I assume the chain order of the zoom B3 is Section 1 then 2, then 3, going left to right. I don't own a B3, but instead own the B1xno, so feel free to correct me. Anyway here goes.

Section 1: bassdrive: bass: 0, treble: 0, presence: 0, gain: 60, blend: 10, level:90, mid: 0

Section 2: squeak: gain: 20, tone: 100, level: 100, balance: 20

Section 3: znr: thresh: 15, detect: Grtln, level: 100

The bassdrive adds a touch of colour. The squeak section controls the tone and gain. These settings are a starting point so feel free to tweak to your liking.

Hope you guys like. This forum rocks.

Thanks for sharing, stinga1990. glad you took inspiration from one of my patch ideas. of course the section settings you've made are the exact reversal of how I set it up. but hey, if it works for you, cool. go with it. I should mention to b1on and b1xon owners to come visit this thread for if they need some patch ideas. especially since both units has the same effects, amp and cabs models as the zoom b3.
