I just got a B3 .. I had a B2.1u but I sold it a few years ago .. I had a Gt-10B that I liked but it was just too big.. I like the B3.. it is clean, quiet, just the right size for me and my effects needs which are very small.. I managed to catch a Memorial day sale so I got it at a great price and I have just scratched the surface but I am loving it..

Hey guys,

just want to mention that me, my bandmates and the producer of the current EP we are working on were very very impressed about my B2.1u performance as a PreAmp throughout our recording session. It was amazing. I have been using already as a Pre (Ampeg simulator) for the past couple of months through my Ashdown rig and it sounding fantastic and I am happy to say that as a Pre before the mixing table works perfectly.

Does any of you use the B2.1u in the same way? What are your impressions?

So far I have been using it between the bass and the amp but this Friday at rehearsal I give it a shot in the FX loop.

I have been following with great interest your thread and the info you are sharing in there is great! Actually I didn't post my impression there because I was curious about other players with the B2.1u been used as I do.

I have a question for you: I have been thinking about ditching the Ashdown Mag300 for a Crown xls1000 as you do. Since I saw you thread this GAS is growing however I don't know anything about Power Amps.

Now I understand the crown gives 220 watts per channel at 8ohms. I currently have two 410 at 8ohms that with the Mag give me 300watts. In case I swapp the Mag head for the Crown does that mean I would have 440watts in total???

The Mag gives me 175 at 8ohms and the full 300 with 2 of 8 (as I have).

Another question is whether the B2.1u would be ok to drive the Crown as so does the B3.

I appreciate your time and if you think we should repost my question on your thread too for the others members, let me know!

If you used a Crown XLS 1000 as I do, you would achieve 1000 watts when run in mono-bridge mode into your 4-ohm cabinet load, which is your 2 x 410's @ 8-ohms, wired in parallel.

According to my thread, that device is capable of powering the Crown XLS 1000 (just as the B3 and MS-60B are.)

I guess its off topic, have been using my B3 as a preamp for 6 string guitar as follows:

Strat => Aguilar db900 => Boss me 50

Boss channel 1 => Amp
Boss channel 2 => B3 with Bassman sim at 50% XLR to PA

It works great, I'm super happy with the entire setup, plus I get to reuse my bass gear.

So, after running my Zoom B2.1u in line as Pre Amp, the last couple of rehearsals I tried using the FX Loop of my Ashdown Mag300 with 810. I have to say that it is really noticeable the emphasis on the High Meds and Highs when in line, I guess in Fx Loop the head takes a more Power Amp approach and having the Zoom as Pre Amp I did have to turn up the Med and Highs Freqs on the unit. I also have turned up the tone setting.

I am using the Zoom as a SVT Pre Amp and running through FX Loop is sounding way better then in line for me and best of all is that in this way the gain knob on the Mag head is now useless so the gain on the Zoom is the main knob.

Very pleased using this set up. It sounds so huge when I play with my Roger Waters P Bass through it... IMO, I now sound in the way a P Bass should sound.
