Zoom Owners' Club!

Been playing with the ToneLib Zoom Android app. I wasn't using ToneLib as I use Ubuntu and my Wine repositories/dependencies are screwed beyond repair right now (no 32bit support, so pending re-install of my home system). I just didn't even know a ToneLib Android app existed. Now I've installed it and it works OK with both my MS-60B and G1Xon.

It just doesn't recognize the effects that don't belong in the model. Say, I have some guitar amps in my MS-60B, it just won't see them, as if they weren't there. Same with my bass "addons" to my G1Xon, no bueno. Not messing with those "crossover" patches thru' ToneLib I guess. I've further read about this issue (unresoved, some people asking for it at the ToneLib forums), but still tried some exporting/importing just in case I could even backup/restore such patches anyway. Apparently there's no problem with exporting the patches (or back up the whole device), seems to be backing up "alien" effects OK, because when I'm trying to import it to another location I get an "Invalid patch data: unknown effect id = ..." that completely aborts the patch import. It's surely validating each effect in the patch you're importing with the "official" list for the model you have connected.

With one of those dongles and a mini USB cable. It's included with some pones (was with my Galaxy S10).

Yeah, just for reference that's called an OTG Adapter. Back before the days of ToneLib etc, I used to connect my MS70CDR to an app called MidiCommander on my Android tablet which allowed me to switch patches. It wasn't terribly useful to be honest, but it was fun.

Indeed. It used to work on my previous phone which was a Moto but stopped working out of the blue (maybe after an update, TBH). I thought there was something wrong with my OTG adapters and went through two more before concluding that the phone was the problem.
There was a brief time that Motorola did have a support arrangement deal but it did not last. I was working for Google Fi when all that went down and sideways. When Google introduced the Pixel all the long fought cooperation between Android phone makers went out the window.

If I'm reading that correctly, does that mean companies providing OTG support on Android phones don't get support from Google anymore because Google wanted push (their own) Pixel? Also, would you know which companies provide OTG support currently? Might help in future decisions.

Don't make Google the bad guy in this scenario, afik only Samsung and some top end Kyocera phones still support OTG operations, Pixel phones did not last I knew. It has been several years so things may have changed.
 
Just a quick test of my sorta' Royal Blood on the cheap attempt. I split the signal out of my bass (Warwick ProSeries Star Bass 5, all open, Jazz Bass'ish) into 2 chains. The bass signal chain comes out of my B3, just using SansAmp + 160Comp emulations. The "guitar" signal chain is processed with my MS-60B. I pitch shift it 1 octave up (plus additional 5th up I turn on or off) taking care to keep the pitch shifter's tone parameter low (reduces roboticness), then I use whatever I have at hand to distort the signal (used the Metal Zone, now I customized my firmware to have some MS-50G effects in there too, so for this I used the BG Crunch guitar amp model, but many of the built in distortions could work here OK), then I use a stereo delay to make one channel some 15ms delayed (both panned completely left & right respectively in this demo). Drums are Hydrogen (a custom drumkit) and are pretty much unprocessed. Also there's no correction (cheating) of the guitar signal, bass and guitar are heard in the exact sync they came out of both Zooms (cheap pitch shifter delay and all). Not that bad really. I'm not intending to make a 2 piece band or anything, but I think this is decent enough for adding "support guitar" in some parts with, say, a power trio.

This is the diagram for my "guitar faking" setup. There's my G1Xon instead of my "hacked" MS-60B (when using the MS-60B I just omit the ZNR at the end of the "guitar" chain). The grey coloured Pitsh Shift is the one I use for adding a 5th (the other one is permanently doing octave up duties). As you can see, it can sorta' track the E7 chord at one point acceptably enough. Not an EHX Pitch Fork, of course (the delay is more noticeable than tracking defects really), but hey, this whole setup costs less than one of those, plus it's what I had home.

@andruca well done! I am doing something similar using a TRex Quint Machine for my pitch shifter different drives from my collection and either a Zoom G1x or an AdrenaLinnIII for my guitar tones. I'm doing a record with a couple of singers that play keys and drums where I am covering bass and guitar duties from my basses, hopefully the record will be out next year.
 
Just bought a 2nd Zoom B3N for a super small Pedaltrain Nano carryon flight board. What's a good SMALL di to pair with the B3N? Using a Whirlwind IMP 2 on my other B3N but it's on a 3ft Pedal train, space is not an issue. IMP2 isn't huge, but is there anything smaller?
