Most obnoxious passive PJ set

An obnoxious pickup is one that:
1. works intermittently and fails only during critical events.

2. consistently gets lost in a mix, requiring onerous manipulations of external factors to produce a pleasing output.

3. causes ergonomic issues.

4. constructed with subpar materials by insufficiently trained/paid workers.

You might like the Relentless or Ultra pickups, for loud agressive sound. They can also be made to simulate obnoxios fairly well 😆

Going for walks, seeing some cool cars.

This Corvette has been in the same spot for I can’t remember how long.

I’m not someone who likes the color gold on a car, but this one doesn’t bother me.

There’s also an old Jaguar parked nearby, so I’m thinking the same person owns both.

So, what do you think of it?

And, what year is this?

I’ll say 1995.

Sire vs Fodera?

Watching the vid I was expecting an MSRP < $1000.

$1700 doesn't seem like this model carries a "budget" price tag, which is what I'd expect from Sire. Wasn't their original mission statement to offer quality basses to less affluent players at affordable prices?

One very attractive Sire feature (IMO), from a playability aspect, is their rolled fretboard edges. Surprised other manufacturers haven't added that feature to their build process. The fact that they haven't, tells me they aren't paying enough attention to what players want, nor to what their competition (Sire) has been doing for years already.

I feel the same about an assymetric neck profile...a no brainer feature that comes with every MTD or Tobias bass, even the lower priced import models. Fender has offered a few over the years, as have some other makers, but it seems difficult to understand why it isn't common practice.

Just me talkin', but I don't recall any negative comments re rolled edges, or assymetric neck profiles.

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

Lol
Well I'm new to Yamaha (kind of) and thought maybe you guys didn't want Signature models on the thread.

Quite funny now that I understand your post! :roflmao:

Glad you got the joke. Totally fine and a terrific pic of you playing that great bass.

And I like your avatar... I do the same in my church band on my BB1025X.

Welcome!

Trusty QCm board for a show last weekend (more people turned up when it opened 😂).

Got a Sansamp as a backup in case there’s any issues with the QC, parallel out to the QC. Running some subtle captures, DG HL comp, BDDI model and some Science IRS.

Very compact and does just about everything I need. Not As fun as the analog board it’s replicating but far more portable and replaceable.

War of the 2x10 cabs. Seymour Duncan vs SWR vs Carvin

I don't want another 15-inch cab. I want a 2x10 for the highs and high mids. When I had my R200 repurposed into a cab I lost the use of the tweeter because the crossoever was in the destroyed power section so all I have is the 15-inch speaker so I need something to balance out the sound. A 1x12 cab may also work I guess but when I gigged I had a GK 1x15 paired with a 4x10 and that system seemed to cover all the "basses." LOL
A 210 is not inherently going to give you more highs and mids, and a Rumble 115 would give you your tweeter back

Extending the life of a doomed bass

And you are heading to the most perfect, absolutely obnoxious pastel pink. If your pickguard is pink, then the bass probably needs to be a complete sticker collage. Embrace the tasteless!

The pickguard is going to be black, I think. Here I made a new version with the final pickup placement, so their pole pieces align better with the strings, plus a texture to redeem myself from that obnoxious pastel pink ;)

I think I'm going to send the template to be cut from MDF.
