Hey everyone, I have been on here for a long time but don't post all that often. It is a great resource for answers to questions and information. I just noticed this forum for YouTube channels. Over the course of the past couple of years I have been documenting my musical journey from when I first picked up a bass guitar in 1986 through this current year. I am so glad I kept a lot of video footage of the shows I did which date back to 1987. If you are bored and need a distraction please come visit my channel. It is just a historic documentation at the moment for the most part. Funny, I created my screen name years ago when I bought my jazz bass, but I don't know crap about playing jazz lol

If it was the Forstner bit that’s in the first picture it looks like the bit is dull and/or burnt. It might be able to be sharpened but if it’s been overheated it’s time for a new one.

When an elevator door opens there’s a small narrow crack running the length of the door. Someone I know dropped their keys down there, a million to one shot I thought. It turns out that elevators have a basket attached to the car. A technician fetched it next time it was serviced. Seems that all kinds of things make it into those baskets.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to design a “basket” located inside the cabinet at the end of the port. It would maintain a clean visual. I hear too many stories of things and critters getting into cabinets via the port.

I tried the V7 and found it a bit gutless if I’m honest. I’m using a V4B 100w tube amp and it would drown out the V7
Like others have said I would get the V12 or perhaps a Magellan 800 which is superb

The Japanese Squier basses of that era are super high quality and built to last forever.

If the truss rod nut is working fine and you don’t mind changing the bone nut, I would go ahead with bigger frets if you know a good luthier that can do it. Make sure it will be a keeper for you though as there is a cost associated to this and you might not be able to cover it if you decide to sell it later on.

I downloaded the Ampeg SVT suite on a free trial to take em for a ride. Its really hard to gauge what they actually sound like. The svt-cl breaks up easily and because you cant feel the force of the sound. Its nice to play around with though.

I can clearly say that preamp is a bad preamp.

That preamp detracts from the product's marketability.

I purchased a B5 Element equipped with it, and I was disappointed by the unnatural high frequencies and the lack of fullness that remained unfulfilled no matter how I adjusted the knob.

However, after I finished the process of removing the preamp, my instrument began to produce a sound comparable to instruments of a grade two levels higher.

I used an MN250k blender and an A500k volume control, and the instrument produces a very natural and clean sound.

What was surprising was that when using 45~105+130 strings, the sound was close to P bass, but when I switched to 40~100+125, it changed to a sharp sound somewhere between jazz and soapbar.

The only downside to the MK-1 is the preamp.

I removed the preamp immediately after purchasing the B5 Element.

I tried to gather as much information as possible, including this post, and my efforts paid off.

My B5 Element wiring was mostly taken from the Ernie Ball sub-passive circuit.

I blocked off all the holes on the front panel with an MN250k blender, A500k volume control, 250k LPF, C500k HPF, output jacks, and dummy LED sockets.

The original output jacks remained dummy, but this is better for me as I dislike the butt-plug style.

Also, I changed the 4.7k resistor connecting the low-cut to the tone control to a 1.5k resistor, and the tone cap to a 473.

The strings are really important;
in my case, at 45, 65, 85, 105, and 130, it produced a sound similar to a P bass,
while at 40, 60, 80, 100, and 125, it sounded closer to a jazz bass. However, it doesn't growl like a jazz bass. It is a clean sound.

Who ever reads this comment will be fully satisfied once the work is completed.

I am trying to tune a 63.88 liter cab (10.5” x 16.5” x 22.5” internal size) to approximately 50-55hz for a Jensen 12” smooth speaker I have. I know that search results are useless, Omni calculator is garbage, and I don’t trust any of these YouTube videos to be honest...

What is the best calculator I can download to help me get the volume right for the port, and am I risking chuffing if I use multiple 2” ports or am I better with a 4” port? Or Slot?

I know you guys get posts like this all the time, but my searches are yielding links to old sites that seem to have gone to the ads. I’m happy to do the work, just point me to the best 2026 calculator and I’ll download.

That's a blues walk for sure and the main figure is a foundational jazz walking pattern. The walking in this song is more repetitive (b/c the structure) than a "walking the changes" type of line you'd find in a straight ahead bebop song, but you find measures like that all the time in improvisational jazz walking. Lines like this are a ton of fun to learn and play.

Yes, the middle finger floats. I started out playing guitar and with a bar chord the middle finger would be playing the third. So when I donated 3 string power chord shape, I always do it index, ring finger, pinky.

Here’s my ‘67 or ‘68 EB-2. It’s been strung with TI’s just like this for about 20 years now. Works fine and they sound magnificent, especially in full mud mode.
