IMHO, every flat I have played, I can get thump depending on the tone knob and amp settings…
My comparison between the Dunlops and the Pino’s was with everything being the same…. Same Bass, same tone knob position and the same amp settings.

The CF models are consistent in density whereas the wooden ones aren't. Just measure the wooden ones as per the video, or using the balance point method ie balance it on a 'point' until you find equilibrium. This will work for your exact instrument far better than some fixed designated point.

Also a strap pin extender works almost as well and is cheap and easy. FTR, I own an XL2 and several wooden clones.

I have a Canon MF654Cdw color laser printer for my home office. It's proven to be a great machine.

I sold mine a while ago but I made one reversible mod to it that really helped. I replaced the volume knob with a stacked volume/tone knob. Certainly made a difference. As for EQ, you have to fiddle around based on the amp and the room. With my GK I played mine with both high and high mids at noon and low mids and low at 3 o clock. Pretty much my standard setting.

Dang, what a slice of funk heaven and a great learn video too. My only gripes are that the vid is blurry as all heck and his funkifying only lasts a buck 40 here. He's not overplaying either and his tone is perfect too.

To achieve this result, my tech shaved 1mm from the center of the back of the neck, and then I had him remove as much material from the shoulders he was confident with.

Thanks, the GB has been a real game changer for me and has def helped with being able to play longer, but I still have to be careful how much I dig in with my plucking hand so I don't tweak that one either. lol Ah the joys of old age! To me, the extra distance around the neck on the EHB wasn't the problem so much as all the extra work with the BH3 pickups and the Ibby preamp to get a sound that I both liked and also cut with the drums and guitars in the onstage mix. A lot of folks changed the pickups and preamps, but I wasn't up to that and am very pleased with the results of the few upgrades I've detailed here in this Cort thread on my GB to get the sound and feel I was looking for with the stock electronics. I really like the Markbass preamp - its simple and effective in musical ways. Hope you enjoy your new GB and look forward to seeing some pics soon!

They used to make a bass-specific rail humbucker called the EB-50PB- no longer made as far as I’m aware. The below was from the non-Bill version of the company but it was originally his design that he sold in the early-80s if not before as there were a few basses that used them from the 80s before he lost his company:

Apparently he did recommend his Wilde L90 as an alternative, and said it should sound even clearer/better (that old model had a bit of an overwound vibe).

Some parts I miss. I can’t say remorse. I worked in a hospital and saw a lot of people most every day. Now I see 2 or 3. Miss coworkers i commuted a long distance so it’s not frugal to drive to see old coworkers. I also miss the challenges of issue resolution. I was a lead IT vendor, I was the person who kept issues from going to h#¥| or escalating. Or when it did I took the heat for it. We (me & coworker) took out trash, stacking heavy boxes, all the way to installing IT equipment. Over a 3 county area. I turned 65, decided this is for someone younger than me!

I had a Genzler nu classic 115 paired with my Fuchs FBS700. Loved the sound but sold the cab when I moved to Europe. Would an Eich XS 115 be in the same tonal ballpark?

I just use a cheap soft case to hold all my IEM needs. The divider on the right holds my spare Etymotic’s, charging cable and Alclair ear plugs.

Yes, ESP's LTD line offers fantastic value in both basses and guitars. I've been impressed by several over the years. My brother grabbed an ESP LTD four-string bass at GC (used) for about $200, and it's well-built with fantastic playability. It's an entirely gig-worthy bass. So it's definitely worth looking out for these.

Otherwise, like others here, I've been impressed with Yamaha's TRBX series and the SBMM HH StingRay. In fact, a local shop has a used SMBB HH 'Ray five-string for a good price, and it's tempting.

The rescue turd showed up yesterday. Turns out that it’s a stealth hh. I think I’m gonna get the headstock off and then paint it flat black.

I accidentally started an original alt-rock/punkish kind of band about about a year and half ago. I'm 48 years old. What was suppose to start as a cover band (the other two guys sucked at covers) turned when the guitar player showed me some of his originals (he's in his 50's). There was some decent stuff in there, albeit needed some polish. So we started getting together twice a month and working on songs. I never thought we would find a drummer, but we did, and it turned out that he was about my age - and was looking for something like we were doing. He's quite good, and things started to fall together rather quickly with a solid drummer on board.

As it turns out, I still have that creative itch that I had even as a teen writing songs and playing original music. Also, I'm much better at it now having played continuously in bands for over 30 years straight. I'm just enjoying the experience again. If we play out or not...great. If we record or not....great. If we live as the best band to never the leave the basement, that's fine with me too. I have options for plenty of other gigs either way.

My biggest problem is time. I'll have an idea pop into my head, go grab an instrument and write in a flurry, then not be able to get back to it for days or sometimes even a week. All of those domestic duties, work things, and family obligations leave less time than I would like for music. Plus I have to rehearse for my other bands/projects.

ATM I'm back with wallwarts /power strip and the associated rat's nest of too long DC wires, which is aesthetically unpleasing but nice and quiet.

Running it all off a power brick is a nice thought, I'll probably revisit at some point but I'm not gonna be playing anywhere without a wall plug any time soon...
