I ran my first two gigs with my 2 new QSC CP-12's over the weekend.
These things are incredible.

Both shows were outdoors, 4 person band, 2 guitars, 3 vocalists and me on bass. Everything but the bass went through the PA.

Show #1 we used them as mains with no monitors (acoustic show)
Show #2 we used JBL 15's as mains and the CP-12's as monitors.

In both cases, I've never heard clearer sound without a full $100K+ House PA in use.
The crowd was blown away by sound clarity at the acoustic show

They are also the perfect upright bass amp. I use a single cp12 for all kinds of small drummer less folk/country/bluegrass gigs and it’s a great balanced tone

Collecting was fun. I enjoyed the experience. 2 years later things have changed . Now I’m down to 4.
The only one from this list that remains is the Fretless. The others have been replaced by

This octave rules! I’ve wanted to try it after trying the oc2 and okto noj, and my wife surprised me for my birthday. Great phattening! Great tracking (sustains down to low F# on my pbass but produce a low E if not sustained) nice defined attack to the sub octave.

I almost want to get a second one to have one with direct signal blended in and one only sub signal

Congratulations on the new instrument. I have an F type Washburn mandolin that plays and sounds great.

Most pickups are do not have the pole pieces grounded. That means when you touch them, they’re floating and you become an antenna for noise. Your options are to drop some clear nail polish on the pole pieces (I’ve not done this) or to ground the magnets by running a piece of copper tape across the magnets and grounding it.

If you’re getting buzz when you touch pots, it means you have a bad ground. They’re supposed to be grounded so when you touch them, they take your body’s electrical signal and sends it to the ground so you don’t hear it. This will require diagnosis of the pots, output jack, bridge, etc with a multimeter set on continuity. Basically, you want to know that each pot and plate and bridge, etc. ties to the ground.

I’ve never lost an effect, but I have gained a few tuners!

As the host bassist at a blues jam for about 20 years, I have a collection of tuners that jammers had left behind. I would always bring the tuner back for the next two jams in case someone was looking for it. I don’t remember anyone wanting to claim theirs.

Some were for guitar/bass, some were chromatic. Most were cheap Korgs, similar to this current model but from various older generations.


Counting a couple of Korg tuners I bought for myself, I've got enough so that I have a tuner in every gig bag (5 in all) so no need to check the bag before I head out the door.

I also got two Snark clip-ons, but both broke after a while, good riddance.

Wood glue and toothpicks for the win!

If I were you, I'd also install a decent sized washer on the outside (if you haven't already).

Low A always reminds me of Korn.... but they tuned guitars and bass to standard Low A. All strings on 7-string guitars and 5-string bass a whole step down.

Did you ever end up making these mods? I'm also considering putting a Sadowsky preamp and Bartolini B Axis pickups in a player 2 modified V.

Honestly, I'd just sand it down some (until there's no more gloss) and hit it with that. Plenty of guides/videos online about how to spraypaint wood and make it look good. Heck, I did a flat black paintjob on a bass in my early 20s and it came out perfect. Maybe add another clear coat after if you want a gloss finish. I was going for matte, so I stopped after a few coats.

I sincerely wish they'd start putting these functions into their multi-effect units.

I don't know exactly. Yes room mic. Maybe choice of amp and eq being a little over exaggerated too. Could be some his Right hand technique and the way he plays...

He is a good player. In general the tones he gets are good. But no matter what he plays it just all sounds the same to me. Never bad. But I don't get the nuances I'd like or expect from his demos.

Anyway, getting off topic. I'll wait patiently for anyone else to post more direct experience here in the future.

Thanks for all the comments! I feel even more fortunate to have this unusual instrument. I learned on an upright, so I will enjoy using this during jams at home. It's too heavy for me to move about, so the Kalabass will continue to serve me well.

Looking like a refret in the near future, this was definately played hard. May just do it!

UPDATE #2: I just realized I said AVRI in subject, definately American Original after removing the pups to determine what they were as well. Pickups are Dimarzio Sixties P / DP124, and bass date of birth January 30-31 2020.

and it really hits when you are a third grader and watch your uncle have a car fall on his leg. He was under it trying to get a tangle of wire off the drive shaft and had it up on a bumper jack. He jerked it really hard and like a slow motion film, the car slowly started leaning. Unc realized what was happening and used his butt cheeks and hands to crawl out from under it, almost. He didn't lose the limb, but he never walked right after it healed.

…so inherently pretty dark. And I typically solo a lot, and play with a soft touch, so sparkle is nothing but a positive in my case.

Now I understand, why you need 'that' sparkle!

My Japanese Fender P did this, and I found out that static was building up on the pickguard and discharging causing the pops. I knew it must be from the pickguard, because it would also make hissing sounds if I rubbed the pickguard with my fingers in the area between the pickup and volume knob. I read about the dryer sheet solution, but also read that it was only a temporary solution. So I got a large single piece of self adhesive copper foil from a stained glass shop and covered the entire back of my pickguard (just to be safe, lol), and I’ve never had any of those noises again. If you do decide to shield the back of the pickguard, make sure the copper foil goes under the pots and jack for continuity.

I installed a different pickup and sure enough, it works perfectly. So now it’s time to find where the pickup is broken…

I wish I had the honor of owning that bass! I just used it for illustration.

"Can't Always Get What You Want" might have my fave chorus.

Fave lyric chorus at times might be a tie between RHCP's "Super Secret Song Inside" or Soundgarden's "Big Dumb Sex", altho' GG Allin's "Caroline and Sue" also amuses.

But then, the chorus pedal I use most is the uni-vibe type, and I prefer flanger and phaser on bass.
