If I could get some Midi help with my Boss ES-5 it would be most appreciated. I have a DD-200 as Midi channel 2. When I hit footswitch 2 (FS2) currently it turns on loops 1, 3 and 5 and the DD-200 turns on and sets it to PC5. What I need is to then be able to hit FS2 again, have none of the loop assignments change, and have it toggle to PC2, then hit it again and select PC5. AI took down a hours long rabbit hole. I should know better by now. Cheers!

The Joyo R-30 sounds great! I believe it's more rugged than the Behringer, but it could benefit from a built-in 9V battery. I especially like the tone of the 80's (Gallien-Krueger?) setting on the Tech 21 manual, playing my active Steinberger-type bass into it.
Tech 21 totally deserves the kudos for designing the Sansamp topology, which I've always preferred to say Darkglass. I'll definitely buy a Tech 21 product, maybe the VT500 head? I kind of wish they'd make a BDDI head or PSA head, though.

I’ve been searching for black nylon strings for 7-string basses for ages. I reached out to LaBella first, but they said they don’t accept custom orders. I then contacted Pyramid Strings from Germany, who confirmed they could make custom sets. Their standard stock starts with a .035 High F, and other gauges are optional. I immediately placed an order for a few different gauges to try out, though the set didn’t come with a Low B — I’d been using LaBella’s .135 Low B all along.

I received my custom strings around a month later, and they turned out incredible! My only thought was that thinner gauges would be even better for lower tension. It would be ideal if they could produce a .125 Low B. I messaged Max at Pyramid to request slimmer gauges, and he said he would look into it. And wouldn’t you know it? They actually made the .125 Low B exactly as I hoped.

If you’re after custom black nylon bass strings, I’d highly recommend getting in touch with Pyramid Strings in Germany. Max responds to emails very quickly, and their production lead time is short too.

wondering if this little quirk with the editor is happening for anyone else?

when using the default editor skin (on MAC) the tracking priority cycles between the 3 options "SPEED/ACCURACY/ZERO" but when switching to the LCD skin it only cycles between "SPEED/ZERO"

Yep they probably do sound different to varying degrees but out in the mosh pit we all sound pretty much the same. And dont even get me started on FOH dudes and studio dudes who will destroy your tone in a trice.

Pitch shifter latency isn't as easy to measure as it is on headphones, where it's just related to the length of audio buffers. Depending on the algorithm, it may get longer as the pitch drops, or on what notes you play. Modern shifters blend in a part of the dry note's attack to make the effect feel snappier - Capo definitely does this. I'll guess 5 to 10ms.

I don't know, what they "do" to their cakes, but here it was very hot for the last days...(outside around 38-39 °C) and we have no air condition or something like this and my 050 rosins look the sameas in the picture above... If you put it directly in the sun, any rosin will probably melt...

When it comes to converting a J/J Jazz into a P/J, the biggest piece of advice I fall back upon is the "Reggie factor". (Please forgive me if you've heard this already.)

The first time I had that Transparent Blueburst body re-routed, I used a Fender Blacktop Jazz pickguard as a template, which places the split-coil a bit closer to the neck.

It sounded fine and I had no complaints. However, after reading an interview with Reggie Hamilton regarding the testing and engineering that went into his Fender signature Jazz, I was so intrigued that I had a bit more routing done using a Reggie-sig pickguard for a template. My guitar tech was worried it might remove too much wood and damage it's resonance, but when he saw how little had to go, he was cool with it.

That new spot worked out even better than the Blacktop positioning, giving the split-coil pickup a considerable kick in the pants! Why? I can only speculate. Whatever it is, the results were immediately apparent and quite delightful, what with all that low-mid gut-punchiness!

Hypothetically speaking, let's say I lost all my instruments and could only assemble one, new Projekt bass. The various bits of hardware would include a Fender Reggie-sig pickguard from WD Music to use as a routing template, followed by all the necessary electronics.

"What kind of electronics", you might ask? I've been having very nice results with a DiMarzio Sixties P/J set pumped through an Audere JZ3. I haven't wired them up passively, but if the preamp is as transparent as people say it is, then I have a pretty good idea of what it would sound like. One thing for sure, I dig it! :bassist:

My two pence, I prefer two separate signals if you're doing a clean/dirty blend. I can mix your clean to be the typical bass, and push your dirty to step into that rhythm guitar space if you don't already have one. If you're trying to send me two clean signals, why bother?

Listening to the remastered Big Pink - in the choruses to "In A Station" - does anyone else hear low-string double stops (like G and C on the 3rd fret of E/A strings) - implying the sound of a low C like you get at first fret on a B string?
Like around 0:43 first chorus under "Wonder could you" "Know the reason" and "Is there nothing"
Or maybe that was something that Garth or Richard played low on a keyboard (but doesn't match their timbre, def sounds like bass).
I vote for clever instinctual psychoacoustics on Rick's part, where a 5th and the upper octave root imply the (unplayed) lower octave root.

I've been on a preamp/DI pedal quest for a few months and settle on the MB3. Mostly I really just dig the clean channel, EQ points, effects loop and I like what the compressor does regardless of where it's positioned. I run dedicated drive pedals so i don't really need the drive channel, but I was also a little confused about a few things in regards to setting this channel up but this thread has answered all that.

Interesting topic. Recently I also started looking for a solution using backline amps. Not only for upright bass but also for my P-bass.
I’ve made a little pedalboard with an Empress ParaEQ Bass for my upright, a Little Lehle III A/B box to switch between my upright and my Fender, an Origin Effect DCX Bass to make my P-bass sound better (if necessary, depending on the provided amp) and a tuner. So far it sounds good at home. I haven’t used it on rehearsal and gigs yet, but I certainly will. The Empress is my latest addition to my pedalboard replacing the Lehle Sunday Driver (piezo buffer)!and it really sounds great with my bass. It has all the bells and whistles you’ll ever need for an upright. Hi-Z (10 MOhm) input, HPF, LPF, bass-tuned EQ bands, shelving filters, etc… I’m thinking about adding a good DI box in the future. Not sure yet if it’s worth the money… Anyone of you bringing their own DI box to the gig?

I would look around in your area for a CNC shop/woodworking company. The scanning method I mentioned in the above post seems archaic (I saw this machine scan a 2' x2' panel that took several days to complete). There is probably a lazer/light scanning process similar to a desk top scanner that would scan an object in a fraction of the time. As for not liking CNC or CAD, it is really nice having a full size CAD drawing that is accurate to a thousand of an inch. Once you had the scan you can create a mold for a plywood top or carve solid wood. Keep us posted

I bought one also couple days ago.
First impression was terrible sound
Neck had a couple high frets and was greener that pics show online.
I was going to send it back but decided for $160 cdn,id take a chance.
The bass was heavier than many reviews state with zero neck dive.
Removing the incredibly cheap P pickups,i installed a jazz set i had and made a pickguard.The frets needed some serious leveling just below the 12th fret.I also stained the light reddish brown fret board to a rosewood like shade.
Now sounds way better night and day difference.
Also my Yorkville b200 amp with small PA horn replacing the cheap piezo.Thats a huge improvement on the sound.
