The original Bassman cabs were 2x15, 4 ohm cabs with no ports. The Bassman head probably has an output transformer tapped for 4 ohms and will want to see a 4 ohm load. Also, I believe tube amps lack the damping factor needed with ported speaker cabinets, so a sealed cabinet will be best.

I recommend adding a Goliath Jr 2x10 to your Goliath. You will have the versatility of a smaller cabinet for quiet gigs, and you can add it to the Goliath to move extra air. Adding speakers is the best way to increase volume.

I understand your anxiety, but if you like the sound, and it's loud enough, why not just keep it? Just save the money you would spend on something new in case you have a problem.

I agree with BillyB. Before you buy a new amp play a few gigs through the rig. You may be pleasantly surprised. I put a JBL D-140 under my SWR WM 4x10T for the same reason you mentioned. I wanted to raise it so I could hear more mids and highs. It worked very well.
