    G&L Club Part 7

I don't measure - but my approach is I get them as close to the strings as I can without warbling or strings hitting the poles. Some folks go the opposite way, take out all the foam/springs underneath and bury them as low in the body as possible, but I like 'em high with as much output and raw...

    Show us your G&L

Having moved to primarily short scales last year I only have one left 2014 L1K from the Rocketmusic limited run. Pre-empress so it's swamp ash with rosewood and a #8 neck. OMG cap is snipped for straight series and I've got it strung up BEAD with flats. Pickguard is sparkle gold paisley...

The OFFICIAL "Gretsch Bass Owners Club"

I'd say to my ear the sound is fuller - more lows, more solid, more heft, but with less top/definition. I'm generally a neck pickup only, roll the tone all the way off kind of guy so series gives me even more of what I'm looking for. I occasionally switch to neck pickup only but end up missing...

The OFFICIAL "Gretsch Bass Owners Club"

It's pretty much all I use - I occasionally flip the switch to another position but it never lasts long and I'm back on series again. I could hardwire series and be happy for what I do and the sounds I want to hear from my Junior Jets.

The OFFICIAL "Gretsch Bass Owners Club"

On one of my JJs (weights for the set of 4): OEM tuners: 247g 8-3/4oz Gotoh Resolites: 162g 5-3/4oz Hipshot Ultralites: 189g 6-5/8oz I didn't find the weight savings (3oz for Resolites, 2-1/8oz for Ultralites) to make a big difference in neck dive for me. I currently have 3 JJs each with...

Sirena Instrumentos Musicales - Expositions and Aspirations Regarding Luthiery in Fillmore, CA

Jeremy - sorry to see you move on from instrument building. I've really enjoyed seeing your artistic visions come to life and really appreciate the neck you made for me to get my Rumblefish back to playability for me. Best wishes in your future endeavors

The Squier Mini Precision Bass Club

I want to thank everyone for all the suggestions with my MiniP. In the end I punted and returned it (one of the reasons I've started buying most things through either GC or Amazon - ease of returns when they don't pan out). It was a fun little bass but I'll just have to settle with playing my...

    SB-2 neck on an L-2000?

My recollection is that 3-bolt USA, 6-bolt USA, and Tribute necks are not directly swappable. I have swapped 3-bolt to 3-bolt, and Tribute to Tribute and those work fine with the caveat that sanding & shimming may be required as the final dimensions are not always 100% the same. IIRC the issue...

The Squier Mini Precision Bass Club

I don't doubt/disagree that this is probably the case given the price point - but wouldn't that affect flats & rounds the same (assuming the same diameters for the strings)?

    Gretch G2220 Best electronics upgrade

Although I'm selling a set of Thunderblades I would also recommend just adding a series option to your wiring. I've got a couple where I've replaced the switch with one that gives series/neck-only/parallel and one where I have vol/vol/tone with a push/pull pot for series/parallel. I tried a...

The Squier Mini Precision Bass Club

I ran into an interesting issue with my MiniP. When I put flatwound strings on it I found that the 1st fret F on the E string was far enough out of tune to sound bad when playing along with recordings (and I'm sure with other people, although I haven't taken it out of the house yet). The G-A...

The Squier Mini Precision Bass Club

Joined back up - I had a dakota red one a few years back. I'm now committing to short scale and was looking for a P-pickup platform and got my Rascal a little bro: I had some parts in the drawer and did it up with a Fender Hi-mass bridge, Gotoh Resolite tuners, and a G&L MFD pickup. So now...

    Squier Owners Club

9.23 lbs (9 lbs 3-5/8oz) I saw somewhere someone talked about getting one that was 8.1 or 8.2 lbs (IIRC) so I'm hoping to find one around 8.75lbs or less. That was always my preferred weight for a full sized bass (lighter is better all other things being equal, but anything 8.75lbs or less was...

    Squier Owners Club

I'm back in the Squier owners family (I had a Mini-Precision for a while previously) with: It's probably just the honeymoon period talking but I am totally digging this bass. The weird geometry choices (short scale neck, big body, lots of booty behind the bridge) fit me like they were made...

    The Reverend Club (part 8)

It's been a while since I've been active on this thread as my slowly degrading wrists/forearms have limited me to primarily admiring my Rumblefish hanging on the wall. I even sent it home with my son for a year or two since I was unable to play it. Heck, some of my narrow-necked G&Ls that I'd...
