i have a les paul special, probably would not recommend it, pretty bad neck dive, the neck is pretty sticky (hard to move fast). it was pretty good for a first bass though, then i bought my rickenbacker :smug:

I just made made my first bass, a good place to get parts like necks and bodies is warmoth.com. There are a lot of guides on the internet to help with wiring.

my neighbor told me that he could play anything that i can play on bass because its easier, i just played some rush songs, he tried and failed. If anybody says this easiest way to prove them wrong is to play slap bass.

i bought a used fender MIM j-bass for $300, probably one of your best bets. its cheap like a squier. only problem is i replaced the pickups a few weeks after i bought it
