For me, it's a tie between both the stingrays.

    Recommend a hollowbody or semi-hollow...

I tried out a Gibson Midtown at a local store, and it has an absolutely amazing sound. The only drawback I saw is that it's not really versatile. Another Gibson hollowbody you could look up is the ES-335 bass, it's kinda expensive but I've only heard good things about it. In conclusion, if you...

    GAS!!! Which would you purchase??

Why not get one of those SUB rays?

    Gibson Midtown & Jack Casady

I've tried both, the midtown is ten times better. I don't see the point of ditching an amazing hollowbody (such as your Midtown) and buying a somewhat decent epiphone-made hollowbody. It seems like a waste of money to me. This is entirely my opinion.

    I WANT A THUNDERBIRD.

Epiphone Thunderbird IV or Jackson Kelly JS 2

I'd try them both, and see which one you like best. As for looks, I preffer the Thunderbird. EDIT: Little detail here, instead of thinking about getting the "Epiphone Thunderbird Pro-IV", why not the "Thunderbird Classic-IV pro"? It's basically the normal passive epiphone thunderbird, but with...

    basses basses and more basses!

I'd recommend trying out one of those new 5 string "EB-13" basses gibson put out this year. I've tried out the 4 string version, and it's definitely a very versatile beast!! really lightweight too!!. As for the 5 string version, I can't say. linkey link: Link Removed

    Bass Advice - Epiphone

Well, in case it's the weight that bothers you, you could try out an Epiphone EB-0. It's basicaly the same bass as the one you have. Difference being that it doesn't have the mini humbucker and it's also a shortscale.

    The best bass you've played?

Carles Benavent custom model. After a gig he did at a jazz bar.Not only was he kind enough to sign me one of his cds I bought and the entrance tiquet, but he also let me try out his custom made bass. Amazing piccolo bass, I think it is meant to be payed with a pick and with his unique style...

    What pick do you use?

Jim dunlop Jazz III and jazz III XL series. thick picks for manly bassplayers.

I want to start playing bass, advice???

well, you'll probably suck at first and then get progresively better if you practice and take it seriously. I'd say that happens with everything in life. On topic, I'd expand your budget to somewhere around 150-200. I've heard good things about the toby deluxe from epiphone. Maybe try out...

    Best bass for $1600

Stingray and/or G&L for something similar but better. For a totally different beast I'd recommend trying out a Gibson bass (the new EB bass sounds and plays absolutely fantastic)
