I like the sound of both, so I am saving my shekels for another bass to put some flats on.

I only have experience with one...so maybe it was a lemon. But I picked up an Epiphone Les Paul Bass and returned the next day. I tried to do put it into drop D, but the low E string was so incredibly loose it was flopping around. I picked up a Squire Classic Vibe instead...much better...

Music Man Sterling...

This is exactly what I do. If I would run my Sterling with all the knobs of the bass pre-amp on full, my amp would clip like crazy. I would have to lower my input gain to next to nothing. Dude, you are doing some wrong or something is wrong with your amp settings...

MXR is a good clean boost. Perfect for guitar or bass for soloing.

Exactly. Nothing else is needed. I had a chorus pedal (cool, but rarely used it) an octave pedal (useless IMHO), and a distortion pedal (the most useless of all). The only thing I regret selling was the Sansamp. The gave a variety of useful tones. But I don't see this as an "effect" per se.

If you want a thinner neck like a Jazz, then consider the Sterling 5. The Bongo hs a neck a bit bigger still, while the SR has a thickest neck of the 3. I used to play a J bass, now play a MM Sterling. I chose this over the other MM Basses mainly for the smaller neck.

Just one bass right now, Music Man Sterling...A Bongo will be my next one...

I am with you... At first you don't realize what you are missing with cheaper basses, but then you start to get bit of skill and you outgrow it very quickly. A used bass made with better parts is the way to go IMHO. The nice thing with used is that with some of the used stuff I have...

I know, I know...everybody recommends what they have...so take this with a grain of salt. But I am very happy with the Markbass stuff...I have the Markbass CMD 121H combo and a Traveller 121 extension cab for larger gigs. Turn down the highs or use the VLE control and I get a vintage...

I concur...the band status thing is not very relevant. If you want another bass and have the $$$, go for it. :hyper:

Keep it... I find that my 500W rig still travels through the house too much, even at low volumes. But my little Ashdown 15W practice amp remains contained in the basement and doesn't travel throughout the house. Great for late night practicing while the wife is in bed.
