That's fair. I'm just saying that is may not be a sign of cost-cutting on the part of Lakland that they are emphasizing straight grain maple over figured wood now. The figured pieces look nice, but more thought and care probably goes into making a neck that is uniform throughout its entire length.

Good point. BEM is expensive and has a place as a decorative item. Just don't want it on the part of my bass that is under tension.

I actually prefer the look of very precise, straight-grain necks. They show more attention to how the wood is shaped and then cut. BEM is only chosen because of its appearance, but this neck was chosen by its location in the larger piece of maple and was cut accordingly. You are getting the...

Wow. Glad you got that one. It showed up on the LOG and I was blown away by it. One of the best looking Laklands. Great color. Is it a translucent finish? Looks solid in your photo. Post it on the LOG.

Yes, it will just be this jazz and the short scale Decade, which will hopefully be ready this Summer. I have sold too many nice basses, but it was fun to try different things. Now, I've think I've settled down.;)

Yes, it is heavy. Don't know the weight, but I would guess around 10 pounds. I was warned by the dealer that the mods to this bass would probably decrease its resale value. Fortunately, the wide neck and heavy body are exactly what I love about it. It doesn't really feel heavy, just solid.
