Hmm, I also want to major in music when I go to a university, so this comments are rather discouraging, I guess I can say I'm a little different since I'm a piano player and want to study classical, and want to become a music teacher.

Well I've been playing the bass in a church for a year so I know how to do it:P Just wanted to hear and maybe see how some of you guys do it.

I'm a church bassist and was wondering how most of you guys who are church bassist play. In our church(and every church I have been to) they use a sheet music with the lyrics and chords on them. Like this How would you guys play this? I just want to know how others do it, and get some ideas...

Tell them that the violin has 4 strings as well.

I use one all the time, mainly because I'm a classical musician and a bassist in a church band who only gives out the song sheet very close to the performing date, and a very limited time of practising.

Unless you really hate playing the piano I would recommend you choosing it. Its not like your dropping playing the bass or anything.

I fail to see why bassist are more special than other musicians.

I don't see how this is exclusive to guitarists....
