Rotosound flatwounds would be my recommendation. They're a bit brighter than Chromes (IMO), but they also lose that sound VERY quickly, hence I'm using some GHS Pressurewounds right now. And the tension of the Rotos is a lot to handle... still might go back to them some day. :p

Here's my Squier Affinity Precision: So far I've installed a new pickguard, Seymour Duncan SPB-3, Gotoh 201 bridge and Rotosound RS77LD flats. Still got some work to do with the pickguard fitting and the electronics (not currently shielded), but will solve those sometime in the future...

Yeah, I kinda' misinterpreted that one, thought he was referring to the RS77LE's instead of the normal ones and saying the SH ones were still heavier gauge then those. But oh well, my mistake... :smug: Here the SH set is somewhat more expensive than the normal Rotos, so I'll probably keep to...

The Rotosound website says the tension on the SH77's is 50-75-95-110, which IS the same as the normal RS77LE tension. :crying:

I'll also buy a set of these RS77's sometime in the future, as the last couple of sets I've owned have been rather nice. The Chromes I own right now are smoother, yes, and the tone isn't all bad, just that I don't dig the way the D & G strings are a tad "brighter" than the E & A. And the Rotos...

I recently tried on some GHS Pressurewounds on my bass and they had black silks on both ends. The E string was dead though, so that was that for... that set.

Just checked out my bass today again, fiddled with the truss rod and so on. After a while had a look at the nut, and noticed that the E string sits maybe 0.2-0.4mm lower than any of the other strings (deeper hole, that is). Could that cause a bit of unwanted buzz/clank? The E string seems to...
