Yeah. Marcus makes music with an edge that is really uncommon in most "smooth jazz." He also has the sessionman background that makes any smooth jazzer respectable. The Miles Davis background makes him unparalleled in the genre.

In fact, I think that when it comes to horn arrangements, Fagen's arrangements on "Nature" were BETTER than Tom Scott's arrangements on "Aja."

I was wondering why people seem to pride themselves on bashing the new stuff. Admittedly, I hated Everything Must Go. But Two Against Nature is up there with Aja, maybe not in the bass department, but in everything else.

Actually, maybe he could. I remember hearing that he was a London studio guy before he rose to fame with Tony Williams and Miles. He even played on that "Winchester Cathedral" song. But of course, Jimmy Page was also a London studio guy, and I can't imagine him with the Dan at all. Now...

Honestly, John McLaughlin is way too chops-intensive to play guitars in Steely Dan. I don't know who would handle the bulk of the guitar work, but I think David Gilmour could play a great solo or two. Heck, he was spotted at the London Steely Dan show, as was Sir Paul.

Somebody post some links so I can hear these guys. I've never heard of most of them! I guess most of the British scene is simply unknown here in the States. What are your thoughts on the rhythm section I threw together?
