    Let's talk about weight

Weight and size are critical because weight/size = technological progress! People want smaller and people want lighter, and as technology improves, companies find ways to get the same quality out of smaller devices. This is progress. I have a GB Shuttle that I can literally fit into the front...

USB interface for recording bass in Ableton Live?

I play bass for a local band in Charlotte, NC, and on the side create my own music... Mostly electro/house/dub step-ish. I'd like to mix in a bass track occasionally, but the only interface I have is a Behringer Guitar Link, which sucks! What "affordable" USB interface would you recommend...

Best USB interface for recording bass in Ableton Live?

Sorry for the double-post. Just realized this is in the wrong category, so I re-posted it here... http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f43/usb-interface-recording-bass-ableton-live-1067096/#post15717111

    Playing bass live without accompaniment

I think I'd need a more advanced loop station. I love my RC-3. It's powerful for what it is... But not quite enough for this.

More advanced RC-3 like loop station?

I got an RC-3 pedal recently, and absolutely love it. However it's got me wanting more... In addition to bass, I'd like to loop in some keys, and maybe some more advanced drum samples. Combining more than one set of loops would be cool too. Know of a more advanced loop station? Something like a...

    Playing bass live without accompaniment

I've got chops, but not Michael Manring "record a bass only solo album" chops. Plus I'm not sure the general public would get it anyways. Solo bassist usually appeal primarily to other bassists. What I was thinking about was using an Octaver up on a rhythm layer, down on a bass layer to get...

    Playing bass live without accompaniment

After playing around overdubbing with my RC-3 and other effects, I got to thinking... My band only plays about once per month. I wonder if I could put together some covers, and play small gigs, coffeehouses, or whatever, without any accompaniment? Layer the bass, rhythm, and then play lead on...

Balanced string recommendation for slap on a Warwick Thumb 4 string?

One thing I didn't mention is that it has EMG pickups, not the original MEC's. But from the research I've done, EMG's should not sound thinner than MEC's.

Balanced string recommendation for slap on a Warwick Thumb 4 string?

Interesting. I hope its not something else. I've played plenty of Thumb's in the store, but this one I bought used online without playing first. Judging by appearance it seems to be in great condition. I was previously playing medium DR's on my Jazz bass, so that's why I thought it might be...

Balanced string recommendation for slap on a Warwick Thumb 4 string?

I just bought a Pro Series Thumb bass, that came with DR Sunbeams 40-100. The strings feel great, super easy to slap on that bass. However the sound is too thin. The E string has no bottom at all. I want a set of strings with bold, low presence on the E and A, but a D and G that are still...

    How's this for portability?

It's a Fender Deluxe bag. Same design as the double bad you posted, but it's only a single. I was actually looking for something with padded pockets to protect the Shuttle, but couldn't find any.

    How's this for portability?

I've been on a portability kick while assembling my latest rig. I upgraded my Fender Jazz case for a hefty gig bag, with large pockets. Now I can fit everything... bass, amp, all cables into one gig bag with backpack straps. I have HyDrive 112 and 115 cabinets, so if I only bring the 112 then...

Do you use them by themselves, or with something else? What amp?

Does anyone use Hartke HyDrive 112's?

Thanks for the input. I'm leaning this direction. I'm very into "light, compact, and loud" ;) I have a Shuttle 9.2. I know that means I won't be able to turn it up much past 6 o'clock, but I also have a HyDrive 115... And in a pinch if I need something really loud then I want to have the...

Does anyone use Hartke HyDrive 112's?

I have one that I love, but by itself it's not quite loud enough to play with my guitarist and drummer. So I have a 115 that I use. However I was thinking that two 112's would make a nice mini stack, that at 600W would be plenty loud. Thoughts? Does anyone have experience with HyDrive 112...

    Will this series connection work?

I knew this was coming ;) I actually only have 1 HyDrive 112 right now, which I plan to keep because of portability... 300W at only 30lb. I understand your point, and might go that route if I can find a used HX115 for cheap. However 2 112's gives me more versatility. In addition to mixing...

Pics of your favorite bass player

Link Removed I took this at the Visulite theatre in Charlotte NC a couple months ago. Checkout the rack of sponsored Warwick's behind him. Would love to get my hands on one of those Thumb basses.

How many basses do you own? (Currently) Part 2

Holy crap you guys own a lot of basses. I "just" have a 4-string Fender Jazz upgraded with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups And a 5-string Ernieball Music Man. I love the Jazz, play it 95% of the time. But to be honest I'm not a big fan of the Music Man. I just keep around for the...

So then, my obvious next question... Where does one obtain one of these mysterious series connection cables?

The Pros seem to favor mixed cabs

I've always favored 10's primarily because I slap a lot. However I noticed P-Nut uses 15's and 12's and I like the low rumbling sound he gets. Maybe this mix could help me achieve that.

    Closeup of Norwood Fisher

IMO they went down hill in the 90's after Kendall Jones (guitarist) and Chris Dowd (keys) left. They're still very talented and entertaining, but some of that creative magic just isn't there anymore.

    Will this series connection work?

    I'm wondering if the following setup would help get the max power out of a GB Shuttle 9.2? Shuttle Amp is 500W @ 8ohm, 900W @ 4ohm 1 Hydrive 1x15 500W 8ohm 2 Hydrive 1x12 300W 8ohm OR 4ohm If I switched both 112's to 4ohm, could I safely run in parallel the 115 and a 112, and daisy chain...

    Closeup of Norwood Fisher

I found the Everyday Sunshine documentary a bit depressing. They're the band that many greats looked up to, but that never became great themselves. Then 30 years later a bitter Angleo Moore still lives with his Mom to make ends meet. sigh

    Closeup of Norwood Fisher

When I was a kid Norwood Fisher was the guy who inspired me to play more than anyone else. His versatile blend of slap, rock, ska, etc together with Fishbone's high energy and unique style, blew me away. I saw them recently. They are much older than when I was a kid, but they've hardly lost...

    Rando Tribe Bassist Introduction

Hello All! After playing pretty heavily from about 1995-2003, I had a couple kids and took a hiatus from playing. And actually had lost interest until an opportunity came up recently to start playing with an established band in Charlotte, NC called Rando Tribe. We do sort of a fusion of...

The Pros seem to favor mixed cabs

Wow, this blew up. I see why it's a hot topic around here. I've been using a HyDrive 115 and 112 primarily for portability purposes, and usually just bring one or the other. My preference would be 4x10's, but I learned that if I'm breaking my back every show/practice then the annoyance lessens...

The Pros seem to favor mixed cabs

It seems like 90% if folks here advocate matching cabinets. I get the logic behind this. However whenever I look at some of my favorite bass players gear... i.e. Norwood Fisher, Victor Wooten, P-Nut, etc. they almost always seem to use mixed driver sizes. I'm probably just in denial because my...

    QUICK SURVEY..... WHICH AMP

That's a fair point b-string. The ShuttleMax 9.2 might be the best of both worlds. You get the ShuttleMax features, but unlike the 6 and 12 you can still get up to 500W on a single 8ohm load, if needed.
  31. S

    QUICK SURVEY..... WHICH AMP

I'm about to buy a Shuttle 9.2. I didn't like that with the ShuttleMax you can only get 375W out of a single 8ohm load. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this.) If portability is part of the purpose of these Amps, then why have to also lug around multiple cabs to get power out of it?

    HyDrive 2x10 Cabinet

I've seen pictures of retrofitted HyDrive 2x10 cabinets, probably made from a 4x10 or 5210c. Does anyone know of how I could get my hands on one? Or if not, what 2x10 cabinet would you recommend that's 450W or more, and comparable to a HyDrive?
  33. S

How to pair cabinets with uneven Watts?

Right idea I guess. But if I understand correctly, the max it can push an 8ohm load is 375W. If the HyDrive 115 had a 4/8ohm switch like the 112 does, this would be a great solution. But the 115 is limited to 8ohms.
  34. S

How to pair cabinets with uneven Watts?

Is there another micro head that you'd recommend instead, that would address my issue?
  35. S

How to pair cabinets with uneven Watts?

Yeah it sounds fine. I just figure the most I could push is about 550-600W, which that incremental difference might not be worth toting the extra cabinet. I was hoping there might be some trick using an attenuator or something.
  36. S

How to pair cabinets with uneven Watts?

Here's my deal... I have the following gear that I hand picked primarily for portability: GB Shuttle 9: 500W @ 8ohm, 900W @ 4 ohm Hartke HyDrive 115: 500W @ 8 ohm Hartke HyDrive 112: 300W @ 8 or 4 ohm I'm a wimp when it comes to toting gear. So for quieter practices I can tote my bass, the...
