Should I need worry about this neck?

Yep, that's a common scarf joint. It's a cheaper, and in my opinion, better way to make instruments with angled headstocks. As everyone else has said, there's no need for concern, and that glue is stronger than the wood around it.

    I think I'm tone deaf

As for the string thing, nobody's right and nobody's wrong when it comes to things like "how often should I change my strings." The SMG dude is a recording/mixing guy, so maybe newer strings on a bass make it easier to mix for him. I change my strings very sporadically, no set schedule for me...

    I think I'm tone deaf

Spectre Media Group. At least, I think that's what it stands for, I know the "S" is for "spectre" anyway. The guy who does the videos is EXTREMELY abrasive.

    Buying a New Bass Suggestions.

I would strongly recommend guitar center's used section. Guitar center may be disliked by many, but their online used section is great for finding awesome guitars/basses at great prices. They have a good return policy too. It can't hurt to look

    Bass guitar found in warehouse

Looks like they changed just about everything. They even left an empty hole where a switch used to be. We can't say what's been done on the inside for certain, though.

    No money no bass...

*in deep, commanding voice* OP! I SUMMON THEE! COME FORTH AND RESPOND! Y'know, if you aren't trollin' and all.

    Can anyone identify this bass??

I've seen basses very similar to that one, made by "El Degas." I believe those were copies of an Alembic design. I think this is , as Immigrant said, a homemade/custom build. And yeah, those tuners are upside down, and kinda crooked, so that's interesting. If it plays nicely and sounds good...

You know what, you could probably get away with that with these guys, good thinkin'

I need advice about my wife who hates my Bass Playing/Guitars

That's great news! Unfortunately lawyers aren't cheap, as you said, but it's a good step to take. Keep on rocking! :bassist:

I need advice about my wife who hates my Bass Playing/Guitars

I read every single message in this thread, that's why I responded to you. You said "every comment" that short-scale made was him being misogynistic, which simply isn't true. Maybe you shouldn't use the word "every" if you don't actually mean "every," and I don't know why I have to explain that...

I need advice about my wife who hates my Bass Playing/Guitars

If you're calling people misogynists for pointing out that men often get shafted by society when they're the abused in a relationship, then you're being willfully ignorant. If the OP were a woman, I doubt anybody would question if her story were true or not. Men can be jerks, women can be...

I need advice about my wife who hates my Bass Playing/Guitars

Hey, in the short time I've been on TB I've learned a lot, mostly things involving tort and flats... BUT! I've also learned that this is a community filled with great people, and we'll help people when the chips are down. You can do this, bro, and we're all supporting you.

MIA Fender Jazz - Defret or not?

Well, with a totally custom job from a Luthier you can really go nuts with the customization. From what you've said I'm guessing you know a good local builder, so my suggestion: go through the steps on warmoth to build the neck you want from them and get an idea of price. Then talk to your...

Would you join a band with much younger guys?

As a twenty year old myself, I don't blame you in the slightest! Being that most of my cousins are 15-20 years or so older than me (some even older, my dad was the youngest in a family of 11) I mix in pretty well with an older crowd. My friends on the other hand, do not. Different upbringings...

    Plectrum or Pick?

I'm no stranger to the term "plectrum," but it sounds weird coming out of my mouth. The fact that it isn't colloquially used here in America is what makes it seem pretentious being said by an american. However! It's totally normal for a Brit to say "plectrum" and as such, it sounds just as...

    Craigslist scammers!

Sounds like that guy was using the long drive as a stategy: "well, this guy drove 65 miles to sell the bass, I can probably lowball him once we meet. After all, if he doesn't sell the bass to me, he'll have wasted his time making the trip" Scumbag move on his part, I commend you for not folding.

Help identify my bass - obscure '70s Japanese thing

As a P bass guy, I'm lovin' the looks of that thing! As for the strings question, Labella are certainly good, but I think it would be a shame not to look into TI (Thomastik Infield) if you're considering putting flats on that bad boy. Hard to go wrong with either, really.

Small clear "plastic" magnetic balls floating around in my basses electrnics cavity?

He decided to take his ball and go home, as it were.

Small clear "plastic" magnetic balls floating around in my basses electrnics cavity?

Not true! Originally, this post was the OP asking a question, but they deleted the title and first post, replacing them with "!" and ":meh:" respectively. Judging by the emoji the OP choose, they were probably dissatisfied with how much fun everyone was having.

Small clear "plastic" magnetic balls floating around in my basses electrnics cavity?

+1 This thread was full of pure gold, yet without the original post, there is no context for future generations! An outrage I say!

Bolt on neck won't come off

E series MIJ? That makes it 80's vintage right? Who knows what could've been done to it... If there really is a gap on the E string side, I'm jumping on the "some idiot glued it in place" bandwagon. If you can't slide a thin putty knife (or something similar) between the neck and body, steam is...

    Craigslist scammers!

He said he was selling a bass on craigslist and that's where the scammers struck. Most of the threads I've read on this site weren't about "playing bass." Threads all the way from repair tips to resolving band/stage/venue problems, don't really have anything to do with playing the bass, do...

Showed up to recording session without a Fender...

A good friend of mine had a studio gig last week. He told me he was bringing his Rick and nothing else! I wished him luck and told him to tell me how it went. Needless to say, the cops haven't found his body yet, and they're running out of leads...

Show us your sub $200.00 basses, and tell us why you picked it...

It certainly didn't need it, it was very payable before the work I did, but there was room for improvement. It didn't need a new nut either. That is, until I broke the original nut getting ready for fret work...

Show us your sub $200.00 basses, and tell us why you picked it...

It's a bad picture, but it's a damn good bass. SX Ursa with some fret work, a tusq nut, and quarter pounders. With rotosound swing 66s, this one's a bass to be proud of.

    NBD-Classic Vibe 50s P

I picked up a new one of those in the local GC and I absolutely loved the neck and the way the brass saddles stood out. Unfortunately the strings were a half inch off the board and I couldn't test it out.
  32. mr15x3

Would you consider it? If so, how much would you pay?

I believe you! I trust that you had no intention of any underhanded tactics; but if I have parts of a bass and I intend to fix and sell it, whether I ask for pricing BEFORE or AFTER I fix it is inconsequential
  33. mr15x3

Would you consider it? If so, how much would you pay?

That bass went from "non-existent" to photogenic in record time!

    Made in Japan Mystery

A 32" scale P, not something you see every day! I like the lollipops up top too, that's certainly a bass to show off fender or not!

$1900 for a no name parts bass?

Personally, I don't disagree with what you're saying. This bass could be the funkiest 4 string ever made for all any of us know, but the guy selling it sounds like an idiot. He's clearly not interested in reality, and proves it by talking about why instruments are painted... In short: the bass...

$1900 for a no name parts bass?

Woah, woah, woah, slow down! Did I read that right? $950 for a Mexican fender!? The BALLS on that guy!
  37. mr15x3

ID this bass for me please

Personally, I like the look of it quite a bit and it'd be a decent modding platform! That being said, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

BOLT-ON NECKS: Who takes 'em off 'cause they can?

I take 'em off for fret work, it's just easier to deal with a loose neck than a whole bass. I haven't taken any necks off just for the halibut, but do what you will with your stuff, bro.

    Fired from a band because........

I've heard/read a lot of stories like this, but this is by far the most ridiculous! Any ONE of those things is reason to leave: random wife appears, good drummer/ decent guy kicked out because of said wife, selfish delusions of grandeur, no gigs despite plenty of prep, constant rearranging of...

    Broke my first ever string

I boiled my strings, this was the first and so far only time, and a week later the E popped down at the ball... I wasn't playing hard or anything, just thumping away, and BAM! It was so unexpected I couldn't help but smile about it! Taught me to always carry spares though, old or new, they'll...
