    AE410 grill vibration

I have an AE112 that also buzzes. I found on one side the grill was barely touching the cabinet and that was the source of the buzz. I loosened all the mounting screws, used old credit cards as spacers, and retightened the screws. Took the credit card spacers out and it worked fine.

Double Bass How do I sound like an upright bass?

+1 You will get a very realistic upright sound, especially if you can play through an Acoustic Image amp. Have plenty of spare strings b/c they break quite easily. Good Luck!

Convert ME to Flatwounds! (Or Attempt To..)

I do like smoother finished strings, it's probably my lack of technique, but I think the string needs to fit the bass. I realize it's cost prohibitive for a lot of players to experiment but here's what I use. On my Roscoe Century Standard 5 string I use GHS pressure wounds b/c they're a good...

    35 inch scale fretless

I just got a Rob Allen Mouse 30 to play for the gigs where the amplified upright is too much trouble and the Roscoe is just too much. I've only played it a couple of gigs but I'm lovin' it. Great sound if you like that tone that leans to upright vibe.

    35 inch scale fretless

I have a Carvin LB75 with ebony fretboard that I converted to fretless. I also have a Roscoe Century 5-string with frets. From my experience, when I got the Carvin (with frets), I was never satisfied with the way the B string sounded. I finally broke down and got the Roscoe. The B string is...

There are several guys in Nashville that rave about this bass. They mostly play on bluegrass circuit and like the laminated bass (think Kay) sound.

    Learning to sing?

Link Removed This is link to some very helpful technique and warmup CD's. I keep them in the car to warmup before gigs. That said, I really didn't understand vocal production and how to breathe correctly until I took lessons.

    Fishman Platinum EQ

Is there anyone else out there that uses a Fishman Platinum EQ for electric bass guitar as well as double bass? I do b/c I think the Fishman compressor is the best, only compressing the mids and not the highs and lows. I play electric through a Carvin BX500 into 2 Bergantino AE112's and I can...

    Practice, practice, practice...

I practiced (never played out) in a Django style gypsy band. The rhythm guitarist was an artist that painted formulaic type seaside landscapes that he sold to Florida retirees as "real" art. We practiced in his studio. He had this vision of us playing and looking like the the Hot Club with...

Lollipop tuners, original to the bass when I got it in 1970, some mild corrosion. Two screws different. I have no idea which two are original but it was like that when I got it.

Mild scarring on the fretboard between 7th and 9th frets. Some finish peeling off the back of the neck probably due to the time spent in the attic.

What famous bassist have you been able to meet?

In the late 70's I met George Duvivier playing with Teddy Wilson, very nice man. In the early 80's I met Percy Heath playing with brothers Jimmy and Tootie while helping with sound at a show. Percy was gracious but not as outgoing as Tootie. After the show we were tearing down and playing...
