Songs to Cover for St. Patrick's Day Gigs

Check the Pogues catalogue. Streams of Whiskey, Bottle of Smoke, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, White City, Poor Paddy on the Railway (Check out a live version). I'd be psyched to see a band cover any of these!

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

I guess some of you guys don't realize with what I have an issue with. We open for plenty of big bands and I get the whole hierarchy of who gets to do what and I am fine with that. Here's my problem, if you are a medium size band that is touring and you have what is essentially a car parked...

Self-Promoting Shows Instead of Playing Bars

Well you might have a problem then, who's going to come to your own hall gig? Out here there are literally no music venue's that have their own built in crowds. Those kind of places are a dying breed unfortunately.

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

Oh I absolutely had my mind made up, the gig is long gone. I was wondering what other people think about that situation because it was rather unique.

Your recommendation for inexpensive Bass-worthy recording mic

Zoom H1 should work well for you. In a pinch, with some trial and error on placement, an iphone voice memo recording can sound decent too.

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

Hmm, I don't believe they were trying to piss us off or anyone. It was just really arrogance and laziness. The sound staff at the venue mic'd the kit and set everything up and they were prepared to move it (I wish I could show you a picture so that you could see how obnoxious it was at this...

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

Yes, we've played with much bigger acts and their stuff was set and we would have to have our drum kit off to the side and be cramped into our little space, but they were traditional set up bands with a frontman so the front of the stage was more or less unobstructed, and that's fine. In this...

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

I fully understand they are the headliner and we have to roll with the punches, etc. and we ultimately did that and were well received and it was all good. I didn't have a chip on my shoulder and didn't want/need respect from them or to hangout and be buddies with them. I would just personally...

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

Just to clarify, it was more the Tour Manager's decision than the actual band members, and the drumset was actually flush to the front of the stage directly in the middle!

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

So this has been bothering me for a while. Our band was the opener for a nationally touring band (Not to be named). The venue wasn't very big, but a pro music venue with great inhouse sound. Now this band is fronted by a drummer, and they soundchecked at 4:00pm. There were two opening bands...

    Abbreviated version of Advice Please!!

I agree. I have been using the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 direct and it has been fine. Unless you want the mixer to add something i.e. effects, direct will be fine.

    Drum Machine & Recorder

If you have an iphone or ipad I would highly recommend checking out the drum programming apps. I was also contemplating getting an sr-16 but after researching the apps available there is no competition. I got the DM1 app and its really easy to learn and work with, check it out.

    Backline Rental New York City

Hi, We have a show in NYC this summer (we are from L.A.) and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to rent a backline bass amp and complete drums for our gig with delivery and pickup from the venue. It is a well known 3,000 seat venue, but we are only playing this one gig and not...

Help needed with pot selection for p/j with concentric knobs

Wow Stealth thanks for the whole schematic! That actually looks good, but as line6man said, i don't think my jazz pickup will have a high enough output to match the Quarter Pounder and I'm not going to buy another jazz pickup. I think I will just wire it as a P only and get new knobs. One...

Help needed with pot selection for p/j with concentric knobs

Thanks for all the responses. I am planning on using new pots, not trying to re-use the active pots. I am kind of a novice in wiring, but the best case scenario would be for me to have one master volume knob so I don't have to turn down 2 seperate knobs to silence the output. I'm sort of...

Help needed with pot selection for p/j with concentric knobs

I was hoping someone could help me figue out what would be the best type of pots to use. I have a Fender Cowpoke (basically a P Bass Special) with ACTIVE P/J pickups and 2 concentric pots V/PJ blend and High Tone/Low Tone. I am replacing the electronics with passive pickups, SPB-3 Quarter...

    Recording practices ... suggestions?

i just got a Zoom H1 and recorded our practice last night and put the files up on drop box today. Very happy with the sound quality! We put it in the middle of the room and it picked up everything really well. At $99 this thing is awesome, very straight forward, just adjust the input level...

Changed my Am P Bass Deluxe to Passive

Is it possible to change active pickups to be passive? How difficult is that to do? I have a "Cowpoke" that has active pj pu's, but I would l be interested in making them passive. I assumed I would have to buy new passive pickups? The active output is very strong and bright, which I don't...

Tech 21 VT Bass price drop coming?

For those in the know, do you anticipate a price drop on the VT Bass once the VT Bass Deluxe starts shipping (any day now)? I want to get this pedal and don't know whether I should buy it new or just wait as I think a bunch of TB'ers may be unloading theirs as they upgrade to the Deluxe.

Best way to fix this myself? Pics

Thanks for the link, but I have done a ton of searching and I still can't find any veneer repair on a guitar top. I have a Rockler woodworking store nearby and am going to bring the bass there and see what they recommend. I'm assuming it will be to stain the exposed maple and then fill it with...

Best way to fix this myself? Pics

I just got this Ibanez AGB140 Semi-Hollowbody bass and after cleaning it up and putting on a new jack plate cover this is the only cosmetic issue left. Looks like the veneer is chipped away from the wood and a small chunk is missing. What is the best way to fix this myself without having it...

Quick question: input jack punched through hollowbody?

I just bought the bass, the jack is punched pretty much straight thru so I can just put an oval football cover plate over the hole and it will have better support and be fine.

Quick question: input jack punched through hollowbody?

I am in the process of possibly buying a semi hollowbody Ibanez. I haven't seen it in person yet but the input jack was punched through when the bass was dropped at some point. The electronics work fine and it is just cosmetic, but how hard is it to fix it up so the cracked hole around the...

    Is this a no no?

My band has a gig tonight and is also playing a gig next weekend at a nearby venue (within 3 miles of each other). Is it bad etiquitte to mention the next show at tonight's gig because it is with a competing venue? We don't usually play gigs so close together, but the second gig is at the best...
