For the most part, I think wood knobs, cavity covers, etc. look silly. Steel or Aluminum on the other hand, are very cool.

I believe the op has an earlier, "non-pro" SVT-III, which, if it's like mine, has no "tube gain" knob

I believe the phase switch affects the bridge pickup. So I would start there. A new switch is a cheap and easy fix.

I had the exact same problem. It was the switch. Also check the phase switch.

Ok, turns out that one (or both) of the lugs from the output jack were grounding out on the body. The pickups have decent output now. The only weird thing remaining goes like this: with the three-way switch in middle position (both pickups on), if one volume knob is turned all the way down...

Seems weird that both pickups would have low output. Any other ideas folks? I'm gonna check it out after work.
