I was thinking of picking up a second cab to downsize from my 810 if I didnt want to haul it around. What Id really like is an Eden 2x10 that has a wedge cab. Its kinda pricey at around $600 but it would make a nice cab. Ive seen ampeg 6x10 and the swr 8x8 cabs and they both look pretty compact.

I wouldnt go to this extent unless you were planning on playing with a band eventually. If your budget allows it then go for it. If not then Id look into a combo amp or get a line 6 pod and plug some good headphones into it.

Any cab 4 ohm will work fine as long as your not cranking the volume. But this amp is a bit overkill for what your planning on using it for. You should think about having it serviced because this is a peice of musical history.

I second this! If you like the SVT emulation on line 6 go with a real ampeg tube pre-amp with the SVP. Either than or you can always go with a Sansamp RBI or RPM

Why not have the best of both worlds? I have my Ampeg 810 with a RBI rack with 1100 watts.... Gotta love the big rig! Looks cool, sounds good, and plenty loud. But also, a Eden Nemisis N28 combo. 200 watts, 2 8's in a kickback monitor style combo under 50lbs. Ill use the combo for rehersals...

Well that teacher must have not been so knowledgable if the 6'er threw him off that much. Go for what you want to play and if they are a good teacher than they can should be able to show you anything on any instrument. But it would be a good idea to bring them both.
