FS: Acme Low B-2 series II 4 ohm, $300 OBO

Hello! Unfortunately the time has come to sell my first bass cab: an Acme Low B-2, series II. It's the 4 ohm version. I won't waste time describing it because I'm sure y'all know enough about it. I'm the only owner. One cone did blow, but I replaced it with an OEM replacement direct from Andy...

The Chinese middle class is a lot larger than you'd think. I'm sure Ampeg will find a great market there, especially for the $2000 amps!

    String gauge and neck relief

Well, post studio report. Went better than expected. I switched up to Sunbeam .105's, and it took almost all of the unpleasant buzzing away. As I said, I like low action for both tone and playability, so it's still got some fret noise mixed in (big Geddy Lee fan), but it's manageable now. I...

    String gauge and neck relief

How much of an affect does gauge have on neck relief? I switched from pre-installed (no idea what gauge, I don't remember) strings, and have tried out a few different gauges. Most recently light gauge D'Addario Half Rounds. I think this may be a lighter gauge than I had previously, because I've...

What's going on in this video??

Live Dubstep Cover - CollegeHumor Video Particularly, the bass player has some interesting stuff going on. Anyone know why the left hand is fretted? Is that a Zon? What is going on between the neck and bridge pickups? Is the glowing light on his thumb some kind of wireless accelerometer...

    SVT Questions

I'd say to give the Berg NV610 a good hard look. It's lighter, with good wheels, and well placed handles. Still a big 6x10, but pretty easy to deal with. Some say it sounds better, but that's not the main I reason like it. Not very cheap, though. It's kind of shallow, but I like the way a nice...

Guitar into SVT - Sample inside

I think the guitar, while kind of "dark" sounding, isn't really muddy in a bad way. For what you're playing there (contrasting lines, kinda sparse), it works really well for a heavy stoner rock sound!

I convinced myself that maybe it's some unspoken SVT rule "never use the handles!" so it survived 40 years, then I come along and break the gold rule (and my amp). Yes, I'm somewhat neurotic :) The seller did a full cleanup/restoration on the amp before selling, so afaik all that stuff...

Hello TB. I have recently acquired a 1974 blackline SVT from a fellow TB member. I have never owned an SVT, and I've only ever had 1 tube in an amp before, so this is kind of a new thing for me. I've done some homework, but have some questions... First though, let me say holy ****. That ****...

Can a T-40 be a reliable "Only Bass?"

Weight on the T-40 has never bothered me, for some reason. I don't play epic 3-4 hr sets live, but we do practice for 3.5 to 4 hrs and once I start playing I don't notice it. I will also mirror the sentiment re: electronics. The t-40 isn't especially unreliable in this regard, but it does...

Is the RH450 a modelling amp?

My guess, with the programmable controls, tube simulation, speaker simulation, and digital out, that its most likely a modelling amp.

The best bass overdrive artist/band,album,song either or or all?

There's a post somewhere on TB where he lists the full recording chain for that. I think it involved the aguilar agro and a U5, plus a bunch of other stuff... Great tone! EDIT: Found it! http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f19/recording-bass-dub-trios-another-sound-dying-joel-hamilton-489385/

    Color or no color?

Here's how I think of it. A speaker cabinet can do two things: Make your bass loud Make your bass sound awesome/different ... or some combination of the two. Some people -just- want 1, some want a combination, some want 2. It's a spectrum. At one end: File:Mike-Gordon.jpg -...

    Vertical stack / dispersion question

Does the staggering in an NV610 mean it behaves like two stacks of 3x10, instead of 3 stacks of 2x10? So, will the NV610 have better horizontal dispersion than another 6x10 without the staggering? I'm assuming it also has to do with reducing the width of the cabinet...

    help me identify bass tone

FWIW, I bet I could get a pretty similar sound on my Sansamp RBI. I think a lot of it is the attack he's using more than the amp itself, so any amp that gives you a little bit of grit should get you there. Or a sansamp in front of just about any amp.

Bass tone on Lou Reed's Street Hassle

I've been really geeking out about the bass tone on Street Hassle. Really curious what it is. I can take a guess at Jazz Bass into a cranked SVT (really playing the odds on that one...). Any other ideas or insights?

Ok so really, how good are Peavey T40's?

In my opinion, people make too big of a deal out of the weight issue. I'm a small guy, with a cheap strap, and it the weight never really bothered me through 3 hour practices. Play one, and if you like how it sounds and plays, get it. Don't worry too much about the weight.

Is it worth it for me to get a Sansamp?

I've had a few sound guys who refused to run just mic'd. In that case, you'll be glad to have your own DI that you're happy with.

    Acme Low B112 Neo's.

The B112 is lighter, at least. Fewer components, and it's made out of plastic. Same box dimensions, though.

    Could this cabinet work? 6x8?

Hmm, all very interesting points. The SWR 8x8 looks pretty tempting... I very well may try to purchase it. I'm going to do some more research into the ampeg 4x8 I've been enjoying so much, to try narrowing down specifically what it is I like, maybe 8" isn't necessary for what I want. Thanks so...
