Should they teach Rock in schools? And why do you think they don't already?

I have taught a Rock School class in a public 9-12 high school. The course was offered as a Fine Arts credit, intended for kids who love music but never got started in choir, band, or orchestra. There were two major problems with Rock School: one of physical reality, and one of mental...

Squier Tele Bass Turned Into Nashville Power Tele!

I came across this thread as I'm looking for ways to mount an additional TEB-101 pickup. This bass looks totally rad! 3 questions: - Are the additional pickups mounted directly to the body? - How deep were the spaces routed? - Any need for shielding?

    NEW Converse Chuck Taylors II

My feet are narrow like Chuck Taylors, so I enjoy them. True, the original/standard ones don't have much padding, but it never bothered me. I bought a pair of the new ones, and they are great! They feel good, and I like the style. Shoes are like basses, music, food, etc. - to each their own.

What were the machine heads lacking? I've owned 3 Squier Affinity basses and all have been dependable instruments. They intonated accurately, responded evenly, and will keep a tuning for several days. My opinion: a reliable instrument sold at an affordable price makes music-making appealing...

    Squier Affinity Club

I just told you :) (I get paid to play. That makes me a pro.) Go play one and see if you like it. If you don't like it, play something else. You don't need approval "from pros".

    Squier Affinity Club

From what I can tell, there aren't many Affinity Jazz V basses in Metallic Blue. This is my ideal bass. Intonation is right on, it holds tune, action is even, pickups are nice and clear. Band mates at the church always compliment the tone of this bass. It is sa-WEET!

Squier Vintage Modified Precision V: who's got one?

This bass is totally worth the years of waiting for a REAL 5-string P from Squier. The maple neck is a sweet feature I was hoping for. It is a solid axe, very playable. I like to keep my tone all the way down, slightly high action, and really dig in when I play repeated notes. The tone is...

    Question on a used purchase-Squier MB5

I owned (briefly) a beautiful blue Squier MB5. The neck was great and the body was light. The pickups, however, were noticeably weak. It made a good practice bass for the office but I never used because of the pickups. Good luck on a replacement set - potentially a very good instrument.

Squier Classic Vibe Club (Part 3)

My CV '60s P is a consistent winner. It stays in tune for days and looks stunning. I changed the pick guard to mint green, swapped the small chrome knobs for a Jazz Bass volume and tone, and put on D'Addario Half Rounds. It was a restock online, so I got it for about $275 "new". Unbeatable!

    D'Addario Half Rounds

I have a set on my Jazz V which I play exclusively finger-style. They provide the tone I was looking for that I couldn't get from rounds, flats, or signal processing. They are just right for me. Texture - Definitely an unusual (VERY subtle) roughness to the touch which disappeared after a...

    Quick English Lesson

Y'all is a legitimate contraction: you all. What kills me is hearing people say "Her and I's" or "Him and I's". "We are driving to Austin this weekend. It's him and I's anniversary."

plucking an octave above a note on the fretboard

This is a cool technique. I like to use this in lighter music which allows for long, sustained bass. The octave pluck does give the fundamental more energy and really helps the bass ride the wave. The difference in tone allows a more subtle onset of the sound as well; not as much "clank" as...

    Setting up my bass

    Standard Gauge Preference

Since day 1 (about 15 years ago) I'd played with 45-100. Within the past year, I began to feel the E string was too thin. I tried a set of 45-105 and felt satisfied to use those exclusively on my Precision and Precision Telebass. I like a relatively boomy/woofy tone and play above the 5th fret...
