Bass Player on Night Court Theme?

IT IS I, THE THREAD NECROMANCER, BRINGING THIS THREAD BACK TO LIFE! Marc is a friend of mine (as is @BigDaddyB), and he was a first-call session guy back in the 80s. He also played with Oscar Peterson. Funny enough, Marc, BigDaddyB, and I are all IT guys now, Marc and I in Seattle, and as...

    How to "manage" my wife...

We are in the final stages of moving. Since I posted this she has fallen deep into painting, so once the dust settles with the move I'm going to discuss it with her again. Will let you all know how it goes.

That EHX chorus is one of the best out there. I'd buy it but I already have one. :)

    How to "manage" my wife...

No, because that's not how marriage (at least my marriage) works. I wouldn't expect her to take "NO" from me, nor would I take it from her. We're more collaborative than that.

You're assuming I haven't done that already. If it was that simple a situation then I wouldn't have posted here.

Who would you contract to build your next bass?

+1 on both of these suggestions. I have a custom Regenerator 5 bass that is my primary player, and I love it. However I know the guys there really well and I'm not certain that they're up and running again. My next custom bass will be from Marco, I know his local guy and I've tried a few and...

    How to "manage" my wife...

Something else that I didn't add is that I'm able to work from home most-to-all of the time, so we do get a lot of quality time together. My commute is less that 30 seconds - I walk out of my office, and I take breaks to look after her if she's having a bad day and take meals together, and we...

    How to "manage" my wife...

Actually, she used to be a professional sound engineer (to the point of doing sound for a couple of A list acts that came through the town she used to live in), and I think that makes it worse. I've tried to get her to do sound but she prefers to only do it on a sub basis. I'm definitely going...

    How to "manage" my wife...

All - thanks for the conversation. There have been some great comments, some funny comments, and some that are... well, we'll chalk it up to being on TB. :) A couple of follow-up comments. First, the "managing" remark was meant in humor. Our relationship is a partnership, and I'm a pretty...

    How to "manage" my wife...

Sure, I could tell her "no", but that's not the way our marriage works. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's not the way most marriages work. I certainly wouldn't accept that answer from her if the roles were reversed.

I love my wife, but I agree with you. There is a very narrow criteria where this would work, but I don't know if it is likely to be found.

This is also a good idea. She has expressed some interest in singing lessons... I'll have to look into this once we settle (will be relocating to another state later this year). Thanks!

    How to "manage" my wife...

This is a great idea. While I've had this downtime I've been building the components for a home studio. This might be a great compromise of letting her feel included in my music while accommodating her commitment level. Sweet! :)

    How to "manage" my wife...

I like it! Definitely some good food for thought. I've tried #3 and it didn't go well, but we're all works in progress so maybe I can give another go at it. From my end, and she doesn't get this, but there's a quality bar that I'll accept and if I/we can't meet that then I'd rather do something...

    Tribute bands - looks

For the audition, I would focus on the music. When you get there, I'd get the whole "look" thing out of the way from the beginning. Ask them what they want, tell them what you're willing to do, and either you're a match or you aren't. Then you can let your music do the talking for you.

    How to "manage" my wife...

Lords of the Low End... I have an issue that I could use some advice on, especially if someone else has been in the same situation. My wife has been pretty adamant that if I'm going to get involved in a musical project, that she wants to be a part of it. She has some chronic illnesses and...

An analog Joy Division/New Order band with two bassists could be fun. One could cover the synth bass lines, the other could cover the Peter Hook parts.

    Good Pickups or Good Preamp

Not sure of your locale, but you should be able to find a used Ampeg BA115 around somewhere in the price range you're looking for. That's plenty of amp for what you're doing, and the first place I'd look (besides your technique) to determine what's up with your tone.

    Any sax players here?

Back when he was in the navy, my dad used to go over to SF and would sit in with Cal Tjader on bari. He's not on any albums, but I love dropping that fact because otherwise my dad was a blue-collar, provide-for-the-family kind of guy who stopped playing when he started a family. There's a reason...

    Help Me Pick

You're on the right track with the 12-3 cab. If I were you I'd get 2 of those and a Magellan 800. That will sort you out for all but the largest venues (where you'd be hooked into the PA anyway). Genz builds a spectacular neo-driver speaker, and since you have the effects you'd like I would...

I have no problem farting on the elevator just before leaving. As well I will crop dust vast areas of our cube farm. In a similar vein I refuse to do a courtesy flush. Like a silverback gorilla, one of the many ways I like to dominate the inferior members of the troop is to allow my natural...

Black longer lasting mary kay in desirably antique?

Apologies for being late to this thread, but the answer is "The War of 1812". An acceptable alternative answer would be "The rise of mercantilism in the 19th century and it's effects on US-British relations coupled with tensions on the frontier between expansionist American pioneers and the...

    NBD (sort of...)

Apologies if you're one of my FB friends and this is old news... So, 5 months ago my 1970 Les Paul recording bass was stolen from my car while I was in an offsite meeting at a local hotel. It was probably my fault as I used the fob to lock it but maybe it didn't take. The plan was to take it in...

What’s the cheapest bass you’ve been/are amazed with?

I have two, both Ibbys... so the first one is the Blazer Bass. I bought an 82 about 12 years ago for $150. It was an amazing player - the sound of a 60's P at Pawn Shop prices, but I hit some hard times and let it go. This year I bought another for $460. Still a bargain since a P with the same...

Comment by 'XrisThaBassman' on the classified ad 'Rane DC 24 Multiband compressor/limiter/gate/crossover, BBE DS24 speaker processor/parametric eq/hpf'

This is, right now, the best compressor deal on TalkBass. I'd get one but I already have one. You can find lower prices on Ebay, but they won't have the power supply, which goes for $80 min when you can find one. Fantastic compressor, doesn't color the tone, super versatile. GLWS!
