You might consider doing stacked volume and keep the tone on a separate knob. That way you can turn down both volumes quickly.

A comparator can sound fine on bass. It depends what sound you're going for. Expect really square. Yes, you can get PWM sounds if the window comparator you're using has VC width. The Blacet one is nice for this. An alternative for similar sounds is the 5Pulser by Ian Fritz.

Just a fully carved upright (Korean) with nylon wound rope-core strings, and a G&L L-1500 with an extra P style pickup and flats. Sometimes I think about building another, but don't really need anything else.
